Reid On Standby For Ireland

Blackburn Rovers midfielder Steven Reid is still recovering from his latest injury layoff but with Reid closing in on a return to (hopefully) full fitness he's on standby for Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland play Australia in a friendly in Limerick on the 12th of August and Reid (who hasn't played since October 2008) is on standby for Giovanni Trapattoni's side. Reidy has been dogged by back and knee injuries for the past two or three-years but the 28-year-old is closing in on his latest return, which would be a boost for club and country.

Keith Andrews is again named in the 24-man squad.

I'd hope that Reidy isn't made to run before he can walk!! Good to see him on his way back to full fitness though, however, I've got my doubts about him ever being able to stay fit again?? If he can I'm not sure he'll be the player he has been in the past.

Cue the next long term injury!!

I'll be crossing my fingers for Reidy. I think this season really is his last chance - I feel really sorry for the guy.

Last chance saloon for reidy this! Go on Steve!!!

Encouraging news but his focus has to be on getting fit for rovers and playing well for us before playing for ROI. I hope this is a sign that he is near full fitness though.

he really should withdraw from the ROI, no disrespect, but surely, he owes the club....
sasman
ridiculas really, we have waired months to see him back in a rovers shirt and he could end up turning out for ireland before us, Really should be overlooked by ireland until he shows his fitness and ability to still play the game
