Zenit Want 9 Million For A 15 Million Player

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce's bid to sign Russian striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is at full speed - and the price is 9 million.

Allardyce went to watch the forward play for Zenit St Petersburg on Saturday and left Neil McDonald in charge for the friendly away at Leeds.

Allardyce has now been informed that Zenit St.Petersburg want 9 million for their star striker even though he has only a year left to run on his contract in Russia.

Forget the fact that he appears a bit arrogant after his rant in January, forget that he has only a year left on his contract. Sam is being charged in my opinion 6 million less than he should because of the fact he has only a year left on his deal.

In an inflated market from 'The Pog' we are getting value for money which is difficult nowadays.

Sam - pay the 9 million, sign him up and get him on board.

I dont like the fact he said what he said in January but he has the skills and if he shows them and some commitment all will be forgotten.

His comments in January were totally uncalled for. I personally don't see this one going through. If it dos, he's bound to be a mercenary - but then, aren't they all these days?

Honestly. What a stupid article. You are really suggesting that we should pay what Zenit are asking for, for a player who's contract is due to expire in 5 months time? If Sam has any balls, he should offer them 5 million and carry on with his search in the meantime. We should not be held to ransom by other clubs in this manner. We can't afford to spend 9 million on a player who is going to be demanding 60k's a week in wages anyway. If we are going to fork out 9 million for a player, we may as well go for Cardozo at Benfica who is a far far better striker then Pavel anyway!

I really disagree with you mikey this time, why should we be taken for mugs? his contract is up in November! they will HAVE to sell him, or we can just take him on a free transfer, I agree with Tombo, if we are going to fork out 9 million for a player, we may aswell go the full wack and offer 10m for Cardozo... who i agree, is miles better...

Respect peoples opinions but i am sticking to my guns on this one. Pavel may be a mercenary in the long run but if we do have to sell him on its because he has been very very good - we need quality, Rovers fans everywhere are crying out for it! this guy has it.

Zenit are hardly likely to let him go on a 'free'. They will either offer him a new contract or sell him. If he does go for a free or at a bargain price, then Rovers could find themselves a long way down the queue! Having sold RSC for 17m?, we can't expect a proven replacement for much less than 9m. I agree with Mikey (if he's the player BSA wants) then it could be a good bit of business - sign him up for 9m this season, establish his Premiership credentials and let him go to City next year for 18m? If BSA missed the Leeds friendly to go to Russia it looks a serious possibility! Can't remember what he said in January but if he scores 20 goals for Rovers, does it matter?

Trust me lads, we WILL NOT pay the asking price. As far as I know, we have made our offer, it is down to Zenit now

Yep. I think 9m is too much with only 9months to go. I've seen some very capabale players move around with that few contract years remaining for a lot less. (Sorry Mikey) :)

Guys this guy will come in, hopefully score 15 goals, and then be gone after the season, a typical mercenary, I really would prefer we go elsewhere....

I agree with Mikey as well. I dont care if its the last year of his contract.. if we want a quality striker this summer we're going to have to pay for one.. the days of Sparky picking up gems for next to nothing are over!!! I know the lad disrespected us in January but he'll have plenty of time to make up to the fans if we do land him.
