Forward Of The Season

With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2008-2009 season.

The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2008-2009 continue to be dished out with the ALAN SHEARER AWARD FOR FORWARD OF THE SEASON.

THE WINNER: Benni McCarthy.

When asked to simply leave the name of your Forward of the Season most felt McCarthy should be the Award Winner, so congratulations to Benni!!

This is what people had to say on this category, which can also be viewed by click here.

Mikey D said: "Benni McCarthy.

It hasn't exactly been a stellar field but 13 goals is still a good return. He needs to lose weight but his class cannot be denied.
"

retroflair31 said: "Jason Roberts. Held up the ball, chased and tackled and really kept us in the race for safety. Who knows what an injury free season could have brought him."

Money4midfield said: "A shoe-in. The conclusion of a dreadful year for Rovers' forwards. The choice between the fat man, the arrogant man, or the injured man. JR wins hands down as he was the only one that consistently gave his all."

BomBom said: "Matt Derbyshire, just a shame that his performances came for Olympiacos!

On the home front, I'm going with Benni. Stay off the hot pot and steak pies and we got a world beater, fingers crossed he's staying!
"

glen9mullan said: "Benni for me, Roberts missed far to many costly chances, cruz been injured most of the season and Derbs been helping himself to a double in Greece, despite being in and out of the team Benni still has managed a reasonable amount of goals this season."

adrianbrfc said: "I'm going to go with Jason Roberts, Benni has played well but only has done when he's fancied it. Needs to get his weight sorted for a full season then he will be immense. Great goal return again but I feel Roberts has worked so much for the cause and thus gets my vote."

Blue n Whitey said: "I'm going for Jason Roberts! he has worked his socks off for us! and scored the goal that i think turned our season around (v Fulham away).

i also worked at his old school in Richmond yesterday, signed shirt on the wall and everything! Haha.
"

roversman said: "I'm surprised so many people have voted for JR considering he cost us so many points with his horrible finishing. But for his misses we could conceivable pushed for Europe with how the league panned out. For that reason I'm going for Benni who - for all his laziness has the ability to produce whenever and did so on a handful of occasions over the season, shame BFS couldn't see this and play him a little more!"

Money4midfield said: "Bit optimistic with the Europe call roversman. Were you watching the same Rovers' season as we?!!"

sasman said: "I'm going for Benni, he didn't play enough in my opinion, when we were struggling, and lacking strike power, he should of been up there, can always pull a goal out of nowhere, Benni for me."

Durks said: "Tough call but Ill vote for Benni. Forwards are there to score goals primarily and that's what he has done."

FreidelNo.1 said: "Agreed Durks - Benni for me, purely due to the amount of goals he scored. Same again next season please!"

JuanFranDeLaHuego said: "It's a hard one this year. Rocky always looked good when he played (espec. Man U away and Bolton at home). For goals though it has to be Benni."

dominator2800 said: "if Roberts have made those wide open changes, my vote would be for him.

Benni has scored or was part of many important goals this season, this goes to him.
"

Blue_Canoe said: "Has to be Benni - job is to score goals, and he scored more than anyone else."

rover23 said: "Benni stepped up when needed.. good reliable forward.."

Thanks for voting on this, PLEASE KEEP your votes coming in for these other Awards, as there is STILL time to vote so click here for the list of categories and vote on the one(s) you want!

Next to be dished out will be the penultimate Award for the YOUNG PLAYER OF THE SEASON so keep voting!! (Click here.)

Crucial goals my friends. Crucial goals. He scored the most out of any player. Majority rules! lol
Mikey D
The only thing Roberts will ever win is how to miss a sitter contest......Well done to Benni, really underused, regardless of his fitness, he can pull goals out of nowhere
