Sam After Russian Hitman..Again!

Sam After Russian Hitman..Again!

It seems that Sam Allardyce has been in colder climates recently, Russia to be precise, in an attempt to land a new target man for Rovers.

More specifically, he has been over, watching a preseason friendly with the intention of casting an eye over Pavel Pogrebnyak.

Pog, as he will now be known, for pronunciation and spelling sake if nothing else, fits the mould of a big target up front that Sam has been after all summer.

It is believed that discussions are at an advanced stage with his club, Zenit St. Petersburg and the player.

Unlike last time, it seems that the lad has had a change of heart and is now interested in coming.

The rumoured fee is a knockdown £2 million as Pog's contract expires in November, the end of the Russian league season.

Also, more should be known about the Di Santo deal very shortly. Chelsea's squad is due back on Monday and it is anticipated to have Di Santo up to Ewood shortly after.

In last night's friendly, Andrei Shevchenko came on ahead of him surely suggests that Di Santo is seen as surplus for this season at Stamford Bridge.

This, of course, is still with the potential of Ancelotti pulling the plug on the deal.

So, fellow VBers, whats the feeling on a Pavel Pogrebnyak / Franco Di Santo strike partnership next season?

So, is it "Da" or "Nyet" to Pavel?

Pog should be a good choice. And for the money, Sam should have some left over and be able to plug a few more gaps in the team's effectiveness.

By all reports, hes a lot better than 2million. Bargain buy, another one we really can't lose out on. He does well- stays or goes for a profit. He does bad- only cost 2mil and will probably get that back. win win

True but he needs to show some more respect than last time out. What he said last time was disrespectful. He is a great player no doubt - lets see what he can do if this comes off.

Di Santo's the next big thing. He's help you to a top 10 finish easily.

DA DA DA and DA! but only that much enthusiasm if he's 2mil, cos thats bargain buyin! would need to explain his comments from last time tho before i would full embrace the signing! cos lets face it, no player should think hes bigger than the club! and partnering Di santo... this could be explosive!

Remenber?: The player has shown he regards himself as good enough to play for one of the big English clubs when he told the Russian press, “I was puzzled when Zenit general director Maksim Mitrofanov said he was going to talk me into accepting Blackburn’s offer in the winter transfer window. “I could only laugh at it. Yes, I dream of playing in England - but I’m not interested in Blackburn who are struggling against relegation.” Dont want him!!!!

Pavel Pogrebnyak would be a great signing for that kind of money I know he was dismissive last season, but we were dire and would not have been a prospect for anybody with any ambition. New season, new beginnings lets hope BFS pulls off another great deal.

I would be happy with this but only if the player was coming to play for the manager. Having said that a front 4 of McCarthy, Roberts, Di Santo and Pogrebnyak I would be happy with the quality of that - not to mention Gally being used as well!
