Rigters On Trial At Southend

How the once mighty have fallen.

Southend United are to give a trial to former startlet and Holland under-21 international Maceo Rigters, who has left Ewood Park after a shocking spell at Blackburn.

The now 25-year-old, who had loan spells at Norwich and Barnsley, was released by Rovers this summer after a meagre two Premier League appearances in two seasons.

Well that was a letdown after he came along with such promise and delivered very little.

Good luck Maceo in your future endeavours.

shame... does this mean we don't take a gamble on promising youth in the future?
GoneRoverBoard
prob will in the future mate I reckon but for someone that came with big promise this was shocking!

Amazinghow far he fell.. .Given his strike partner for the Dutch u21s is still pushing on at Liverpool, this is very disappointing.
Money4midfield
There was word he was even better than Babel but this has proven to be not the case at all!
Mikey D
im surprised by Rigters....I had heard as well that he was better than Babel and we got him for next to nothing whilst Liverpool spent massive on the other one....it must boil down to either the English League is not where Rigters should play...he wasnt as good as people thought ( cos bascially the Dutch league is NOW no better than the Scottish Premier ) or that he thought he was much better than he was and to end that he simply did not try hard enough...We can see that Sam is giving Gallagher another chance so if Rigters was willing im sure he would have been given the same!! We will hardly miss a player that practically never played for the club, but deep down i feel he has wasted this opportunity!!!!

Clint - the new master of the sasman double post!!!! lol

You begin it perfectly Mr Mikey, how the mighty have fallen is exactly how I would sum Rigters up. Came in with such high hopes and a superb reputation. Ending up with Southend (on a trial basis) is a sign that he was NOWHERE near the player we thought!!
Walker
If you had said this would happen when he signed I would have laughed in your face lol!
Mikey D
I don't feel he was given enough chances, i will just throw that out there!

He was always going to be a gamble, top drawer prospects aren't generally sold for £400k. Hughes took a reasonable punt on the U21 Golden Boot winner. He never caught the pace of any game I saw him play in, like a fish outta water
roversfan95
i dont think he deserved a first team shot though, never really pushed on in the reserves....well in clint, looks like the tradition is flowing lol
