Allardyce: Rovers Couldn't Afford Ruud

Blackburn Rovers have been interested in signing Ruud Van Nistelrooy but Sam Allardyce has admitted defeat in his possible attempts to sign him.

The 33-year-old is someone that Allardyce wanted to bring to Ewood Park and with further star names signing for Real Madrid this summer the Dutch striker's going to find it hard to get into the Real Madrid side so this gave Rovers hope. However, Big Sam admits we probably couldn't afford him and with Van Nistelrooy also out until September Rovers also couldn't afford to wait for him to get fit.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: "I think probably Ruud, from a salary point of view, is out of our reach.

"And I think he is not going to be fit until September, so that is not going to be what we are looking for at the moment.

"We need someone right now who can join up with the squad as soon as we can.
"

Personally I think it's a shame as the former Manchester United striker would've made a superb signing for Rovers and given everyone a lift, but it was always a long shot anyway.

Well thats that then! It was a good thought but it looks impossible now. Not being fit till September has sealed that though.

it was always going to a long punt this one, how low would he have been prepared to go below the £120,000 he's getting at Real? at his age 32/33 im not sure if he's even that old....but we would have expected him to more than half his wages to join Rovers...he is still a great player and a natural goal scorer but he would have worked out to dear for all the time he would have in him....

We can always dream though!!!!
