'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Sam Loves The Croque Money

Rovers boss Sam Allardyce is loving the bit of business he did when he sold Roque Santa Cruz to Man City for up to 18 million

He feels it represents a good deal for all parties and now the summer of tweaking the squad to be ready for a better season can begin.

Three signings have already come into Ewood Park, the solid Lars Jacobsen joined yesterday to add to the speedy Elrio Van Heerden and the really rather excellent Gael Givet.

But there is more to come and this has been made possible by digging their heels in over the Roque move and getting as much money as possible for him.

Sam spoke to the Sun and said - 'I thought it was really good business, the player has got what he wanted and we've got good value for that player.

'You take the money and use it on someone who does want to play for Blackburn.'

Never have truer words been spoken. From a personal stand point I only want players at Rovers that want to play for the club. Santa didnt want that but there are players here now that definitely do and we will be MUCH better off for this.

In even more good news. Rovers medical staff have confirmed that David Dunn, Steven Reid and Brett Emerton are all ready for pre-season.

This seems to add to the notion that no more midfielders will be heading into Ewood this season.

I am starting to get even more excited about next season.

Dunn, Reid and Emerton all fit - like three new signings! I really hope that they all stay fit and healthy as they are all good players. Also, we'll have good competition for the shirts in midfield.

I like the way Sam has said - 'BUY PLAYERS THAT WANT TO PLAY FOR ROVERS' thats really important for a club like ours which has been used as a springboard for some recently - Bellemy, Bentley, Cruz etc after we had basically resurrected their careers, or made them into the players they were, note the use of the word 'WERE'!!! FN1 as u said those 3 will be like new players for us, fit and raring to go, they should be hungry and will add greatly to our squad as all 3 can play numerous positions
Clint
Please let the Football Gods allow Dunny to stay fit this campaign!

BSA has said he wants to 'buy players who want to play for rovers' - which still makes you wonder why he sold Matt Derbyshire!

to be fair to Derbyshire I think that might be more a case of he wants to play for Rovers but he wants to play games more!

I still dont like the idea of only having Dunn, Reid and Emerton as midfielders. They are /Dunn and Reid) way to injuriprone and I would not take my chances with them - it is not like they have been playing for years when the come back...they will be rusty! We need a very good and talented midfielder to add some flair
redstarman
redstar i totally agree we do need that bit of flair, we have NO goals from midfield and as such we are easy to defend against - - although should Dunn, Reid and Emerton stay fit along with Grella, Andrews Gamst, Elrio etc we will have a competitive midfield, hope fully with another name added along the way....
Clint
Emo is more or less a lock to stay fit (touch wood) as last seasons injury was the exception as opposed to the rule. DUnny has goals in him but he needs to stay on the pitch. As for Reid.... I hope and I pray.
Mikey D
RSM - I think the midfield need to be scoring more goals anyway - I've being saying this for a few seasons now. Also, for Dunn/Reid/Emerton to shake off the rust they need a good pre-season and to get playing competitive games again - if they stay fit and play 30 games each they should score at least 5-8 goals each (heres hoping anyway!)
