Rovers Agree Fee With Olympiacos For Matty

Blackburn have agreed a fee with Olympiacos for the transfer of Matt Derbyshire, with the transfer to be wrapped up when the the hitman agrees personal terms.

The Blackburn born lad has been a hit whilst on loan to the Greeks since January and is now almost certain to leave Ewood Park as Sam is keen to raise funds.

Derbyshire scored 11 goals after moving to Olympiacos in January and is expected to complete the move in the next few days.

Personally I feel this is an error as the fee is about £4 million if the rumours are to be believed and yo can't put a price on the passion that Matty displays.

Big Sam better have someone with guts and desire to replace him.

You've done it again, I though I'll get on early before work this morning to beat Mr Mikey, but noooooo he's still there. That split second looking at something else cost me (again!!!)

It's been on the cards since the minute we allowed Derbs to leave on loan in January, personally I think it's the wrong thing for us to be doing by selling him, however, Big Sam is the manager and JW the chairman so I'll back their judgement on this one even if I don't much like it.

AWK NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO........... Hopefully they have included a buy back clause at least

Di Santo.. :-)

Pity he's going - always like to see local talent given a break for Rovers - it breeds loyalty. Can't keep everyone though - the most important job is to mould a team that will work together - hoping Big Sam gets it right.

I think selling Matt is the right thing to do. He had started to plateau a little and hadnt made much progress. I just wish we got a bigger fee for him than the reported 3 mill.

I am gutted :(

i heard that there is a big sell on clause, i cant understand this because this sorta means that Rovers believe he will leave for a bigger fee, if so - - why sell him?? im puzzled.... This may work out for us or be a massive mistake in letting him go, but its not our call, so lets hope we get in someone of better quality then!

it's a sad day. i won't say he stagnated since he wasn't given much opportunities and was played out of position when he played under ince last season. we now need a frontline makeover. at least, he's not going to another english team, so he won't come back to haunt us in the meantime.
dominator2800
gutted but he might be the best for both us and matt. He was never going to get a starting place under sam and has never done before under any manager. He now has the chance to play champs league and he deserves it i hope he develops as a player and will come back to blackurn in a couple of years

The irony is that out of the two strikers leaving - one is still a hero where as the other one is a lying deceitful child....
Mikey D
I think £4m for a young striker that's showed an awful lot of promise is very bad business by the club. Realistically there are barely any strikers worth having that cost less than £4m (certainly none in England - though we have managed to find some bargains abroad before). All this leaves us with at the moment is JR and McCarthy. I do fear for our frontline next season. That said, Sam and the board must have some targets lined up, Santa leaving has been on the cards for a long time now. I wish Matty all the best. He is blameless here and I don't think anyone would deny him the chance to try and make a name for himself abroad. We'll miss you Matty!

Definitely miss him - what I will say though is that Sam knows he wants already. He must know - otherwise he wouldnt of sold Matty and the Child.
