'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Derbs' Greek Tragedy?!?!

Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire looks destined to stay with the club if newspaper reports are to be believed???

It's understood that Rovers are asking for £5 million for the 23-year-old having already rejected an offer of £3 million from Olympiakos. Derbyshire has said that he'll leave it to the clubs to decide the matter and I personally do think that he'd be happy to stay at Ewood Park but would only do so if he was going to get first-team football next season, however, I'm not sure that Derbs will get that chance!!!

£5 million is a fair price to ask as the England Under-21 International is fairly established as a footballer and certainly knows where the goal is (as we and they've found out) so it's not like Rovers are asking an over the top price for Derbs. I'd be thrilled to see the striker stay at Ewood but if we priced Derbs out of a move and then didn't use him as much as he deserves next season then this isn't going to do us or him any favours.

Meeting in the middle at £4m (which personally I think is still cheap) might see this resolved??

If and thats a big if - the club decides to sell him I hope they have the foresight to include a buy-back clause, or a percentage of the follow on sale price (like Arsenal did with Bentley). I think Derbs is only going to get better as he gets more experience - I really hope we keep him at Ewood.

Personally I'd be thrilled to keep hold of Derbs, however, I'm really not convinced that he is part of Big Sam's future plans so letting him leave to get the football he wants is what I think we'll need to do. £3 million is too low, £5 million isn't unfair so meeting in the middle might see the deal done?!

Superb ideal on the sell on/buy back clause FN1!
Walker
Good call that FN1... if we are going to sell somet like that would be superb. However I still think we should keep. He will always weight in with goals and you cant put a price on that.
Mikey D
We just shouldn't sell him. The question here is- Zaki for 6mil or Matt for free?
retroflair31
Keep him, don't want to loose a talented english player. No zaki in my opinion - he is troubles it seems or else Wigan would have brought him as he was one of the fans favourite players.

I think Sam has said £5m so to scare them off, hopefully they have said that £3m is as far as they will go, this would serve 2 options, keeping Derbs on side - we value him highly and keeping him at the same time, well i hope this the plan, Derbs is much netter that Zaki, loves the clubs and only wants to play football - Big Sam will have to take notice soon, if not i fear we will lose one of the best up n' coming english talents

Agree with everything else that's been said. No to Zaki and yes to Derbs staying!
Money4midfield
I think 5 mill isnt enough. To be honest, Derbs knows where the goals is, how many strikers are out there who are young, have 10 years ahead of them, and love the club to death, who we can snap up for 5 mill, nobody Derbs needs to stay!!!
sasman
at least 10 goals out of this guy... can we find a guy that will do the same for that money? the sort answer is no!
Mikey D
Frazier Campbell went for £6m, its amazing how the team u play for can influence the price of a player!!! there is NO WAY Derbs is worth less than a player who has F**K ALL, albiet you are paying for potential in him, he's only a couple of yrs younger than Matt.
