Ryan Out Givet In For Baggies

Ryan Out Givet In For Baggies

Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen has been ruled out of the final game of the 2008/09 season against West Brom with a calf injury.

Nelsen picked up the knock in the 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday when he was forced off just before half-time, coincidentally minutes before fellow defender Gael Givet suffered a similar injury.

The Big Man has confirmed that Nelsen will not be risked but Gael Givet should be back after suffering a less serious knock.

Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports said - 'I think Givet will be okay, but Ryan will definitely be out,'

'Ryan pulled a calf whereas Givet is more tightness rather than a tear.'

Maybe Zurab could get a go here? I hope so as it would be about time!

this would normally be really bad news with the captain out but its end of season and there is very little riding on the game so it is ok... he can save himself for the lap of honour!

Zurab is decent enough cover for Ryan - I'd rather Ryan recoups for next season, don't want him out for long spells again!

Yeah it is a shame that Ryan is out but his long term health is the key, he has again been one of our best players this season.

Nelsen has only missed two League matches all season prior to this so will be as disappointed as us to miss out on Sunday but thankfully safety has already been secured for us (and West Brom already relegated) with both sides merely playing for pride (plus the extra money for a higher league finish.) In the New Zealand International's absence Tugay should be handed the captains armband, as he may well have anyway???

its, thankfully, a nothing match, well winning is winning and then there's the money for league positions but u know wot i mean, we cant be relegated lol So its not that important that Nelson plays...not as it could have been, without Sam coming in and turning the team around in the nick of time.....I agree that Tugay should get the armband, i think this was a given anyway....
