Rovers To Stick To Their Guns!!!

Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz has made it clear that he wants away from Ewood Park but John Williams is understood to be prepared to stick to his guns on his valuation.

The Rovers chairman was holding out for £20 million for the Paraguayan in January's transfer window and not even Manchester City would meet this amount at the time. Injuries and loss of form has hindered Santa Cruz's season but Williams isn't prepared to let the striker leave in a bargain deal (as some reports have claimed) and nor will he allow him to go to anyone on a cheaper money plus player deal (also something that plenty are understood to be trying to tempt Rovers with.)

Newspaper reports today are again giving out the impression that Williams isn't going to back down in his valuation for the Paraguayan International, even if this means Rovers miss out on the transfer funds that could be generated from selling him. Personally I don't think that JW is going to be that short-sighted as he knows that Santa Cruz is unhappy and we'll not benefit from keeping an unhappy player on board and this isn't going to do much to help team morale either. We will rightly hold out for as much as we can get for Santa but unless Man City come in for RSC again I don't think we'll be able to get anywhere near to £20 million for him will we?!?!

One thing that I do know I'm fed up with is this whole RSC situation (and have been for a LONG time) so the sooner we end this drama the better!!!

he didn't buckle when McCarthy wanted out either... his form has never again hit the highs of his first season though :S

if one thing is for sure Williams will hold out for as close to the £20m as he can and why not?? If the big clubs can command figures of £30 for Berbatov (who hasnt really justified that kind of money at Utd) Adebayor is meant to be worth £25m - for wot-ever reason I do not know why..and £28+ for Tevez at Utd to be a bench player to name a couple, then why cant Rovers hold out for a reasonable figure, in the world of football anyway, for a player who in his first season proved he's up there, goal wise at least, with the 3 mentioned above??? insert reponses below.......

I thought he had a clause in his contract saying he can leave if someone offers £18 mill?

I believe you're right DP - The reason that we can hold out is that he signed a new contract and he's our player for another three years is it? So, we don't have to sell - if they want him they will have to pay big money. I'm not sure if we'd get £20 mill - but lets set our stall out high.

How are we going to get £20 million when we have a clause in his contract that allows him to leave for £18 million?! (agreed decimus). I think we need to dig our heels in and hold out for that. Then wave goodbye to the media hawker and get some players in who will play with pride for this great club!

RSC signing a new contract at the beginning of the season and then wanting out is still the most peculiar thing to me...
dominator2800
The whole reason for RSC signing the cantract was to protect Rovers and himself as he insisted on the clause in his contract....prob the onlt thing that he has done right in all of this....The guy is a snake, we will stand fast, we will get our 18m and i pray that he has the same impact that Bents had at Spurs!!! - PENIS

Rednapp has all but said to Bentley that he needs to find himself a new club for next season - I wonder where he'll go
