Rovers To Be Beaten To Smithies?

Blackburn Rovers are understood to be one of several clubs that will be beaten in the battle to land Huddersfield Town's teenage goalkeeper Alex Smithies.

19-year-old Smithies is understood to be on the verge of completing a £2 million move to Everton, who have reportedly beaten us, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of the highly-rated youngster with Goodison Park understood to be Smithies preferred destination.

With Sam Allardyce taking a goalkeeper on trial recently and with these rumours of an interest in Smithies (who has represented England at various Youth International levels) it seems as though Allardyce isn't happy with his goalkeeping options at Ewood Park, however, is Big Sam just looking for cover and competition for Paul Robinson or is he looking to replace Robbo, as it is understood (and constantly reported) by the media that he is???

How many goalkeepers do we need? Don't we have some Austrian guy on trial already, plus 3 decent keepers at the club?

Strange this one, if this is true maybe Bunn and/or Brown might be leaving?

£2mill is a lot for a 19 year old keeper from Huddersfield. I think Bunn adn Brown will be leaving though.

I've always fancied Fielding in the longer term. I'm confused why we'd be buying another keeper unless Big Sam saw him as a real bargain for the future

Fielding is a top draw keeper - Brad recommends him so he cant be bad!

I doubt we'd have a 19 year old replace Robbo

But maybe as back up?

Fielding will take over from Brown as Robbo's understudy, although im still sure im the only fella on here that still not rate Jason lol As a club, we tend to buy a lot of young keepers who we never see in action though...
Clint
lol thats about 13 keepers in our top 60 players or so....

Frank Fielding would also be my number two for next season (and beyond), if he was good enough for Bradders that's good enough for me!!!
