Allardyce Targets Portsmouth Scalp

Following defeat against Manchester City on Saturday Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has now targeted a win over Portsmouth on Saturday to secure Premier League safety.

Safety is still in our own hands and victory in the crucial match with Portsmouth at Ewood Park on Saturday would secure this, and Allardyce is targeting this.

Allardyce said: "We need to control our own destiny by winning, not rushing to the TV hoping the other teams have slipped up, as we have done.

"We want to make sure we get three points next week. If we do that it will be in the bag and we won't have to rely on what other people do
."

Relying on what you do is the best thing to do when you're in relegation trouble, and victory over Portsmouth (who don't travel very well) would secure this, with us currently six points above the drop zone, defeat would leave us nervous (depending on other results) going into the final two matches.

Yeah, yeah. That's what Newcastle said. You may nick it, we may get a draw. Either way, both of us will safe & all being well Newcastle will go down. I doubt if many will lose sleep over it!

Pompey will settle for a drwa, and we will get it. A draw will suit us both, especially if Toon and Boro draw theirs; very likely.

We need to keep a clean sheet - anything else will be a bonus!

If Portsmouth play like they did at Newcastle, then it will be very hard to break them down, they went out for a draw and got it, it was the 2nd most negative game i have had the misfortune to watch this season, both involved Newcastle as well come to think of it!! they have a massive team though, dangerous at free kicks but not the most mobile at the back and for some reason tend to play Crouch up front by himself, negative tactics designed not to lose, it works but this is def a winable game for Rovers.....
