Allardyce: Stupid Goals Costs Us

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has slammed the "stupid" defending that he says costs us during the 3-1 defeat at Eastlands on Saturday.

Two errors in the Rovers defence enabled Manchester City to take control, and a third just before the break left us with an uphill mountain to climb.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: "We were quite comfortable for most of the game apart from losing two stupid goals from corners so that's been our Achilles heel today.

"We've suffered a loss that I'm surprised about. Particularly the way we started the game and how comfortable we looked.

"Trying to battle back from two-nil down is very difficult under any circumstances, but away from home it was always going to be difficult.

"To rub salt in the wound there was the penalty before half time. It made it an almost impossible task.
"

3-0 down at half time meant that the match was effectively over but Allardyce was happy that we at least improved things for the second half.

He added: "At least we went out in the second half and played as well as we did in the first, got a goal back and tried to get the second to put a bit more pressure on, but couldn't find the quality needed.

"At least we defended correctly in the second half and like I said, tried our best. So performance wise, in general play, I was pleased.

"The two lapses of concentration have been very, very disappointing as it's very unlike us to concede goals from set plays, but two is very unusual.
"

Our own destiny is still in our own hands, but this defeat NEEDS to be quickly corrected or (assuming results go against us) we could soon be back into big trouble again!!!

bad seat that Scotty! lol... I think we can move on as everyone else has lost. Because of that we are actually in a stronger position strangely!

Sorry to leave you lot looking over your shoulders, but that's football I guess. Not sure about big sam though, his tactics clearly didn't work against City, and even when he tried to change things a bit his tactics failed. Are you sure this route 1 master is what you need at Blackburn?

fifth column blue - take a look at the league table when Sam was hired and now - then come back and ask whether it is what was needed? It aint pretty cut it has almost done the job. Next season we will expect more but this season it is all about the points and the table

Well, Mr Allardyce, I'm sure all goals against your teams are "stupid" but if the rumours that you are interested in taking Barton from newcastle have any truth in them then you'd better be prepared to lose your job again. Only a week ago Shearer was saying Barton's return to the team could "save" Newcastle from the drop. Now Barton's season is finished and he has been suspended by the club. If you once again buy Barton, just who will "save" you?

jesus I hope we don't that tuhg Barton. He should be locked up for the things he's done, not given £64,000 a week. On the plus side, I don't think we'd be able to afford his wages.
