Dunn Wants A Rovers Stay

Blackburn midfielder David Dunn is clamouring for a new deal at Rovers and hopes his injury problems don't scupper that dream.

His ability has never been in doubt but he needs to prove over the length of his existing deal that he can stay fit.

Dunn's current contract expires in 18 months and he is very keen to extend his stay here.

The injury-plagued star insists he is no rush to sort out his future as he is just happy to be playing but being a Rovers fan wants his long term future to be at Rovers.

Dunny, speaking to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, said - 'I am just happy to be involved at the minute,'

'I just leave any contract talks with them at the moment.

'I'd like to think that something would maybe happen in the summer, but I have still got just under 18 months left so there is no real rush.

'I just want to play football and my first choice would be here, but players do move on and there might come a point in my career that I would have to move on again.

'I would hope not, but there is a good chance that would happen as you get older. You can run less, so you drop down a division - and drop down another division and another division.'

he has 18mths left on his contract so its up to him to prove he's worth another, he has talent, no questions about that, but his fitness is abismal - he would need to sit down with the physio's and work out whether its in Rovers best interest to keep him on the books or look for another to take his place on a long term basis

I think Sam will hadle this prfectly by NOT handing him a new contract this summer!!! Dunny is a crackin player but he needs to give us a full season next year....this will earn him the cotract that he thrives....Sam no mug and he'll prove that in the summer!!!

I think Sam will earn his own new contract in the summer, he will shape the team and set us out for a new campaign which ever league we are in.

Injuries are again being cruel to Dunny this season so the more of these he has the harder it'll be to keep a regular first-team spot as others then move ahead of you. At the moment it is understood that Dunny can't really train, which isn't helping him. We need Dunny to get through this season, take a break and get himself sorted out for next season and hope he'll stay injury free!!! If not though the chances of getting a new contract would seem slim.

ditto all of the above. We won't be giving him a new contract until he proves able to stay fit - that said, I really hope he can because he's a proper Rover in every sense of the word.

I think Dunny will mainly be a sub appearance man for the rest of the season. If we can keep Grella, Tugay, Andrews and Warnock fit we have the options in midfield to keep us going strong.
