Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce bemoaned the fact that Rovers failed to threaten Stoke City's goal enough during the 1-0 defeat on Saturday.
Rovers didn't threaten Steve Sorensen in the Stoke goal enough and Allardyce puts this down to the injuries that we have suffered in key areas, most notably in the striking areas. Allardyce was able to name Benni McCarthy and El Hadji Diouf but didn't think that their pairing got the best out of them as the qualities they need around them were lacking.
Allardyce told Sky Sports: "We've got Benni (McCarthy) and (El-Hadji) Diouf obviously, but Diouf doesn't play up there that much and Benni always needs the bigger man with him, whether that's a Jason (Roberts) or a Roque (Santa Cruz).
"We haven't got them and we have to deal with that and make sure we overcome those problems and produce a performance that can win next week."
Before the defeat at the Britannia Stadium recent Rovers defeats had been against sides in the higher reaches of the Premier League, so weren't anywhere near as terminal as the Stoke defeat might be and Big Sam knew this, but he also knows that we now MUST get those all important wins as we enter the final matches of the season.
He added: ""We are disappointed but it's the first time we've lost to anybody around us since I've been here.
All the four defeats prior to this were against the top five sides and we've got to make sure on Sunday we go all out for those three points and deal with the pressure that comes our way.
"We need to produce a performance under that pressure and try to get that all-important win."
We still have our own destiny in our own hands, however, defeats against sides also battling against relegation could really hurt us when all is said and done!!!
