Rovers Can't Recall Derbyshire From Greece

Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce has admitted that it is not an option for him to recall on loan striker Matt Derbyshire.

Blackburn fan Derbyshire has been a smash hit in Greece with 5 goals in 10 games.

The Big Man, speaking to the BBC, said - 'I let Derbyshire out as we needed a little bit of financial adjustment,'

'It was needed to bring in El-Hadji Diouf and Gael Givet. Those two players have made a good impact.'

However some excellent news is that Sam sees Matty as a long term Rovers prospect and wants to adapt Derbyshire's game when he returns to England.

Sam continued - 'He can score goals. We know that but the game at this level is much more than just scoring goals,'

'There is no longer room for players who just score goals and do not do so much else.

'Everybody has to put their work in when they are in possession and out of possession. That is something we can work on with Matt when he gets back.

'Of course if anyone can score goals you would want to keep him. We do want to keep him.'

I normally fully agree with what Sam says in full but there is a sentence I must pull him up on - 'There is no longer room for players who just score goals and do not do so much else.'

What exactly does Benni McCarthy do apart from score goals?!?

I am so glad that Sam wants to keep Matt. I can see why he let him out now though!

I'm even sure McCarthy scores that many goals any more Mikey? That whole article looks a bit ominous to me - look at what Beattie's doing for Stoke, how can he say that players like that no longer have a place?!

Maybe his all round game will develop as Sam hope sit will? for me he is a better option long term than any of the other 3 forwards we have!

I can see why he was sent out on loan, just at the min it seems like we need him more!! He will come back stronger though

This is probably why Benni isn't playing as much as he should do, he doesn't put the graft in that Big Sam wants? Good to hear his positive thoughts on Derbs though, maybe he and Peter Crouch (with speculation today about a summer move) could form a really good partnership next season?
