Admiral Thinks Ooijer Might Stay

Ryan Nelsen still thinks that Dutch defender Andre Ooijer could stay with Rovers. Andre has been quoted a few weeks back as saying a move to PSV was on the cards when his contract runs out in the Summer but club captain Nelsen feels it's not as clear cut as that.

Andre's 2 goals have been worth 4 points to Rovers this season which have proved invaluable and he has always put in a steady shift be it at right back ot centre back.

Nelsen told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph - "If Andre does go, then that would be a great leaving present, but I think he wants to stay. (Referring to the late goal v Spurs).

"He hasn`t signed anything with another club.

"All he`s doing is weighing up his options. I know Blackburn would like to keep him.

"The closer we get to safety, maybe he`s more likely to stay."

Yeah, I saw this (and was going to cover it but you saved me the job) and it was a surprise, I thought a deal had all but been done with PSV?!?! I don't think he'll be staying regardless as to what happens will he.

It does make things interesting but to be fair to Andre - he said he wouldnt comment after what he said the other week and he hasnt, man of class and his word.

i think the time is right for him to leave. he has done great for us but he is like 34 and is only going to get worse as player and as soon as we sign a good right back i doubt he will be happy being a back cb behind samba and ryan

I like Ooijer, but I still feel right-back is where we need to sign some class. I'm sure we'll be seeing him leave for PSV this summer regardless.

i wudnt have minded him staying if he was 10 years younger but at right back u need pace to overlap as the a right mid comes in and at the age he is, faster younger players will get the better off him.hes still a great team player no doubt

he has great experience and like a club like ours with promising young players thats important BUT he is 34 and we should be looking more long term, getting a a replacement now rather than later.... He has been a good servant, but the Dutch league is much slower so would suit him better in his latter yrs
