Allardyce: Only Thing To Fault Was The Finishing

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce couldn't fault Rovers' effort or commitment against Everton on Wednesday Evening but cursed the missed chances in the 0-0 draw.

Jason Roberts missed the best chance of the match allowing Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard to make a save (and a fairly comfortable one at that) when put through one-on-one with Stephen Warnock clipping the crossbar with a free kick from out wide (which was probably a cross anyway) and substitute Aaron Mokoena heading wide as chances went begging for Rovers.

Allardyce told Sky Sports: "The effort was great. The commitment, I can't fault it. Unfortunately we just needed a quality finish in the second half with the chances we got.

"You're not going to get many against Everton, who are very, very good home and away now. They came in the second half for us and we didn't convert one.

"That's probably why we ended up with the nil-nil. I think that from our point of view it was too many chances missed tonight.

"I thought our fitness was really good. We went right till the very, very end to try and win it. But chances have got to be taken unfortunately when you play at this level.
"

There were again positive signs, and things that we can build on but we can't afford to miss chances like we did (in a relegation battle or not) particularly at Ewood Park as these might come back to haunt us later in the season. However, a point against a side that might have an outside chance of a Champions League place isn't the worse thing in the world is it!!!

very dissapopinting game in the whole, we need to win our home games and really lacked any width or creativity and never forced howard into any saves, roberts missed yet another one on one and games are quickly running out, we need to get some back to back wins and soon!!

The qualities that Big Sam highlighted were there, the match itself wasn't good but we MUST convert clearcut chances that we get, if not then we know what might happen!!!

It was a shocking match. We did work hard, but we're really lacking creativity in midfield. Please let Dunny come back swinging!

Also, was I the only one that just knew JR would bottle the 1-on-1. Despite playing well, his finishing is shocking. If only that had been Benni or Derbyshire or Santa, *sigh*. Talking of which, I was really disappointed not to see McCarthy coming on around 75minutes when it became obvious we lacked any creativity. Santa and JR just means we hoof it, we need someone who can outfox defenders, not just out-muscle them.

I think our formation should have been 442 - diouf on the right wing and Cruz and Roberts up front. Cruz had such a good game against Hull up front as the target man, then he gets put out on the wing - which you could see was really frustrating for him. Obviously I'm glad we didn't lose but we shiould have shown more ambition, especially at home.

Hi everyone. How is RSC doing at the moment? Are you going down and if so will you regret selling him to us for less than we were offering during the transfer window?

Great effort last night from the guys. The finishing was lacking but the effort and quality was top notch. Everton are an extremely good side and we more than matched them. Kepp it up boys but work on the shooting!

Kenny - Santa is playing well. The cost of keeping him and him leaving for less in the summer is greater than selling him in January so we win if he helps keep us up.

why isn't Benni playin, he is surely better than roberts or diouf and has to stay on the bench, I think that's really unfair for him and the whole team

For whatever reason, generally Benni does not play with Santa Cruz. With Cruz in such good form, this leaves Roberts (who chases and tackles) as Cruz strike partner, or Cruz as lone striker. and Kenny, if Cruz helps us stay up, it doesn't matter what we get for him. but if he keeps scoring we'll get more, not less then was offered in ther summer

i think sam is saving benni and dunn for the fulham game which is now massive. hull beat them there so we have to as well. Also when we switched to 442 las night late on we looked so open at the back and i thought we were going to concede. Hopefully we can get are first team centre mids, dunn and grella imo, playing against fulham and dominating

i was not a bit surprised that jrob bottled. we would have scored if he chose to do it any other way. his stunning misses are going to cost us dearly. i'm quite fed up w/ him
dominator2800
true... the formation we played last night worked well defensively against a very good Everton side.
