Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has said that he is prepared for criticism that he will receive following Rovers' FA Cup exit at the hands of Coventry City on Tuesday Evening.
Rovers put in a superb showing against Manchester United on Saturday Evening, but as has been the Allardyce way he selected a weakened side against Coventry on Tuesday and in the end the Championship side knocked us out 1-0 at the Ricoh Arena through Leon Best's goal. Big Sam is prepared to be given grief for the side he selected, however, he believed it was important to get other players involved and our FA Cup future was always secondary to our Premier League survival.
Allardyce told Setanta Sports News: "We've lost three on the trot now and it's not very nice. Know what I mean?
"I'll get some criticism for changing the side but this squad has to be used to its full potential.
"I think, overall, this is out of the way now and I'm very, very disappointed.
"I would love to have played Chelsea at Ewood Park in a sell-out game but The Premier League is obviously more important."
Personally I am really disappointed at our FA Cup exit. I'm not surprised by it, nor am I surprise by the side that Big Sam selected as this was to be expected, but felt we had a chance of winning something and this wouldn't have had a negative influence on our League form. Of course our Premier League survival is the most important thing but an extended run in the FA Cup (even if it MIGHT have ended against Chelsea in the Quarter-Finals) could possible have boosted the morale at Ewood Park?
We gave ourselves something to build on with the performance against the best team in Europe last Saturday, but did we miss out on something by not building on this? Hopefully that good work (even though we lost that match at Old Trafford) will not be undone by this Cup defeat!!!
