All Contract Talks On Hold

Rovers have today come to the decision that all players contracts will not be discussed until their battle against survival is won.

There are several players such as the great Tugay and out of contract in the summer players such as Andre Ooijer and Aaron Mokoena that will have to wait till the summer to find out their future.

Also, coming out of a meeting that the Rovers board had was to put on hold deciding the futures of loan talent Carlos Villanueva, Danny Simpson and Gael Givet.

Williams told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph - 'Our whole focus has to be on staying up at the moment. That is what every single effort is being put into at the moment,"

"We are not in contract discussions with any of our senior players at this moment, that will have to wait.

"The only contracts that are being talked about at the moment is for the youngsters, like offering Andy Haworth a new deal this week. We want to make sure we keep the best youngsters."

Now there's some incentive for the guys.

This sounds like a sensible move to me - committing money to players when things hang on the balance is not a smart move.

Didn't realise Blackburn were battling AGAINST survival, but I guess with the football that Big Sam plays it could be construed as such! LOL Can I suggest that any suspension in contract talks is as much down to the players as it is the club? No player in theire right mind would want to sign a new contract when they could easily end up in the championship next season. Good luck, hope you stay up.

Fair point mate, however, i believe this adds to give an extra incentive to the players, work your asses off, earn the points to stay up, and you shall be rewarded. However, if, and thats a massive if, we dont get the points, it might cost us, as these lads will be free to move on free transfers

yeah its a risky move not resigning signing them. i'm sure with a relegation clause in the contract many would sign but this puts the emphasis entirely on the players. good move again by the big man

It's a risk either way, if we offered new contracts to players and IF (which we won't) we went down we could be in trouble. By not offering deals we risk losing those we might not want to. The pros outweigh the cons for me personally and I think this is the right call. If players do want to be with Rovers we'll find out in the performances coming up, if form slumps as a result then they aren't players we want are they?!?!

Thats a fair point that fifth coloumn but even so how stupid would it be of Rovers to commit players to large money deals before anything is decided?!
