Sam Wants Midfielders To Get In On Act

Sam Allardyce has sent out a warning to the troops. Sam feels Rovers cannot solely rely on their strike force to fire them away from relegation, the midfield need to start pulling their weight as well.

The three main strikers at Ewood, Roque 'Lets go crazy when I score' Santa Cruz, Benni McCarthy and Jason Roberts have contributed over half of the Premier League goals notched this term. Furthermore, the out on loan Matt Derbyshire has added a couple himself. The cry for help from elsewhere has never been loud.

Dave Dunn and Morten Gamst Pedersen have been regular scorers in the past but with Dunny constantly injured and Morten constantly rubbish, the goals really have dried up in the middle.

The goals from the back normally come from Chris Samba, who netted in the 2-2 FA Cup draw with Coventry but the midfield are the ones called into question at a time when their input could define our season.

Sam, speaking to Sky Sports said - "We definitely need more goals from elsewhere. There were several players in the first half on Saturday - Carlos, David Dunn, Jason - who had opportunities and central defenders going up for set-pieces.

"The strikers are paid to score goals and they get the headlines when they do, and quite rightly so, but we`ve seen the quality of finishing. I`ve seen it before with Jason and you`ve seen it with Roque on Saturday.

"We`ve also seen other attacking minded players have opportunities who have to come up with a few more goals to take the pressure off the forwards, I agree with that.

"Around your team you need midfielders with four or five goals, players in wide areas with five or six, centre-halves with three or four. That gets you to the total that gets you more points on the board."
"Chris Samba popped up for us at the end and that together with the goal Gael Givet had disallowed is exactly what we`re looking for. A terrific ball in and a terrific header from the lad who`s looking very good.

"Those things shouldn`t be taken away from the players when they`ve earned them, but it was and we`re still in the hat.

"We have the players to score goals from all over the team and now is the time we need these players to show that."

Personally I have to agree with Big Sam on this one.

David Dunn, Keith Andrews, Diouf and Morten I am looking at you in particular.

I think Sam is trying to take the pressure off the 3 strikers and I cant blame him really.

If Gamst scores,I'll be really really happy. It was like 3 seasons ago when he used to score alot!!!
Heldacaite
Coincidently I think thats when he stopped playing consistently well as well!!! ;)

lol I think Gamst has just fallen to comfortable, nobody is pushing him for the left flank berth. Would of been good with Diouf, emo and Gamst pushing for 2 position
sasman
he better fire up soon or even with injuries to the team he will surely be dropped

I think Diouf is more than capable of playing on the left with Carlos on the right so Gamst should not get too comfortable. His work rate though is always good.

We certainly DO need goal inputs from all over the field, strikers are paid to score goals but midfield (and even defence) need to chip in a few as well, and if chances present themselves they MUST be taken.
