Sam Happy To See Rovers Through

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce was delighted that Rovers advanced into the Fifth Round of the FA Cup following Wednesday evenings 2-1 win over Sunderland.

Rovers came from a goal down (David Healy scoring) to beat our Premier League rivals Sunderland 2-1 at Ewood Park in the replay thanks to goals from Aaron Mokoena and a last minute Extra-Time winner from Benni McCarthy to secure a Fifth Round meeting with Coventry City, and Allardyce was happy the hard work paid off in the end.

Allardyce told Radio Rovers: "We had enough chance to win two games in 90 minutes and failed to take them again, we made real hard work of it.

"Obviously it went to extra-time and the only chance we had in extra-time Benni has put in for us. We were just working out what we were going to choose to take the penalties.

"But every player has put in a great stint tonight and played very well indeed.
"

However, Big Sam wasn't happy at the amount of chances that were missed (something that Rovers had problems with against Middlesbrough last Saturday) but was thankful to McCarthy for coming off the bench to head home the late, late winner.

He added: "Chances came and went, and a host in both halves and it was a bit worrying to be honest as not being able to finish teams off leaves you open to a fluke goal or a counter attack.

"The way Craig Gordon played, it was a heroic display by him with some of the saves he pulled off. Some of our finishing was very good, but some of our heading went begging until Benni's went in.

"But we got there in the end after extra-time. It is another victory, we are unbeaten, we can take great confidence in that and move on and look forward to Aston Villa.
"

Tickets for the Fifth Round match with Coventry go on sale today priced at £15 for adults and £5 for concessions, more information is available on the Official Blackburn Rovers Website.

The missed chances are quite a concern but not as much in that we are still getting results. I would be more worried if we werent making them!!!

Excellent point Mikey. If we were not making chances then it would be a lot more worrying. I think last night proves we should do all we can to sign Carlos at the end of the season. He is the most creative player we have after Dunn and will be a lot better next season when he is used to the pace.

Carlos has really put himself into contention but I can see Diouf playing tomorrow!!!
