We Were Never In Any Position To Sell Santa Cruz

Blackburn were never in a position where they could sanction a deal to let Roque Santa Cruz go.

Rovers could never find the same quality of replacement at all during the January window and in the end Rovers are in the best position they could be - with the squad still intact.

Big Sam, speaking to Sky Sports said, 'More often than not the player probably gets his own way but in the position we were in it was impossible to agree to that, so we stood firm.'

'The most important thing was keeping a squad together that's a very good and tight-knit squad. I wanted to keep that unity and myself and [chairman] John Williams worked so hard in this window to make sure we resisted any bids from anybody. We're really pleased that we've managed to do that to help us secure, as quickly as possible, our Premier League status for another season.'

I think the fact that the January window is now closed will be a massive relief to all at the club. Rovers' players are always linked away from the club but the time has come and gone and they are all still here.

Now, lets get safe...

I think we all knew dep down this would be the case and so it proved. I also strongly believe that Roque will stay true to the cause. He has always said he loves it here - nowis the time for him to show it.

yes, if he likes it hear so much then surely he wont leave to play european football, he'd rather stay and get the team he's with into a top place and get us playin european football? but i can't see him playing for us next season to be honest. with the clause in his contract of a £18m selling price. it looks like the clause in santa is gonna take him away from ewood!

As a City fan I'm personally quite gutted not to have signed RSC, but am relieved that we did not give in to Blackburn's demands and shell out silly money for the player. I'm sure you will have no problems with RSC in terms of attitude and commitment, but I think you may find that turning down such a huge profit on a single player could come back to bite you. Please don't tell me that Allardyce could not replace the player at short notice, I'm sure he could have signed 3-4 very good players with the money, and that this would have been more helpful in your quest to avoid relegation than just holding on to RSC. Hope he does'nt get injured, otherwise you will be in trouble.

If RSC gets injured we have Benni, J-Rob Diouf and even Carlos that can play up there.

Honestly I don't think City will be back to buy him, we thought the cash would have been enough to tempt your board, It wasn't and Allardyce is quite right to hang onto him. I don't think the relegation question comes in, ususally there is at least one team in free fall at this time of year and it would appear to be two Hull and Portsmouth, but from 8th downwards everyone of those clubs are in the mix and you club is no means the worst of the bunch, with or without RSC.

I agree with Sam in that if our top flight status was secure Roque would have been sold. It is partyl his fault that we are weher we are - he should help get us out of it. He might not like it but it is true!
Mikey D
I didn't expect Santa to stay, but now he has he will be professional and get the job done. I don't expect Man City to return for him now, as I expect they will be targeting "bigger fish" now?!?!
