Derbyshire Completes Olympiacos Move

Blackburn striker Matt Derbyshire has completed his move to Olympiacos, where he will play until the end of the season.

The England Under 21 star has struggled to win a regular place in the Rovers side this term and has stated he sees this as a chance ot get some first team agmes under his belt in order to win a long term starting spot at the club he has supported since being a child.

Derbyshire, speaking to Sky Sports, said - 'I am excited at the prospect of joining such a big club as Olympiacos and when I found out about the possibility of moving there, it was something I looked at,'

'I saw they were top of the league and I have been told by various people they are the biggest club in Greece with fanatical fans. I had the opportunity to stay in England as other clubs were interested in me, but I fancied this opportunity to join one of Europe's biggest clubs.

'It gives me the chance to play in Europe and experience a different culture and I am really looking forward to it.'

Derbyshire is definitely a fan favourite at Ewood and will be back better off for his experience abroad I am sure.

Do us proud Matt.

I think it is fair to say that this will beneift everyone at the club including Matt. We will have a better striker on our hands when he returns.

I just hope he gets some first team play there - I can't imagine he would have moved if he didn't think he was going to, but it wouldn't be the first time a striker's been loaned as cover...

There main forward has sustained a long term injury - His name escapes me. But he has been loaned to replace so i imagine he will be in there straight away.

Don't like the sound of this from fat Sam. Unlike Santa Cruz, fellow striker Matt Derbyshire is expendable, but only if Allardyce can find a replacement. The Greek side Olympiacos are saying they had agreed a loan deal until the end of the season for the 22-year-old, only for Allardyce to claim they have jumped the gun. "I'm happy to let him go, as long as I get somebody else in," confirmed Allardyce. "When a player tells you he wants a new experience, and he is not getting any first-team football, you listen.

good for us and matt? well theres a 2.5 million fee agreed if he is a success. Darko Kovacevic is the injured player Mikey. RSC is going, Diouf coming in and we are still looking for his replacement
BomBom
really shocked me this one Greece of all places!!!!!!! 2.5 million looks cheap, not read that anywhere bom bom, i have heard harewood is who we are chasing, and if thats the case we have lost the plot, cos he is no where near as good as derbshire, wouldnt mind fred from lyon, out of contract in summer and still only 25 and could be signed for 3 million
glen9mullan
Bombom according to the greeks there is no fee agreed at the end of the loan. Thats what their official line is anyway.
durks de rover
the 2.5 mil deal was an offer that cardiff put in last week sumtime, or rumoured to have put in at most, think it was laughed off by rovers... at least i hope so! matty will be back, i just think sam wants sum1 ther that can do it now, even it is just a loan deal! Just heard about a link with Peter crouch for 10mil, thats if roque goes for 20!?
whitey_82003
the 2.5 million fee is a rumour, albeit a strong one. Indeed Whitey, Sam wants bean pole and spit the diouf to replace Derbs and Santa, although Spit will be playing wide right i would imagine. As for Fred, hr turned down spurs cos he wanted 80,000 a week and they wouldnt give it him, think we can match that? pffft!
BomBom
80,000?!?! not a chance. I see diouf as useful as he can play fourth striker as well as right wing and left wing. He will create competition. I dont like him but he is bloody useful on his day.

Boys ur hearts are ruling ur head.....Matty has not progressed and is probably fast coming to the point where we all have to realise it....Diouf is a much better footballer...whether we can tame him is another thing but ability wise they're miles apart....well done SAM!!!
mani13963
That might be so but Matty scores goals and his record off the bench is great... again anyone is welcome to argue this with me!!!
