Rovers Reject City Bid For Santa Cruz

Blackburn have rejected an improved offer for Santa Cruz from Man City. Mark Hughes moved for the striker he signed for Blackburn but the bid was turned down outright.

This looks like a statment of intent from Rovers. The bis was significantly higher than the £12 million City bid in the summer.

Former Rovers boss Hughes said - 'We have made an improved bid, a substantial bid, and it was rejected,'

'We still want to bring Roque Santa Cruz to the club if we can, but he's still Blackburn's player and at the moment they don't want to deal at the level we are at.

'We will make any future decisions in regards to their response.

'We bid £12million in the summer and it (the latest offer) was significantly higher than that.

'We will now have to wait and see.'

Rovers look to be standing firm on Santa Cruz. The 'news' that he was close to signing seems to be the usual media speculation.

Only 23 days to go until the end of the window and it will be interesting to see whether City will come back.

Could be a long January by the looks of things!

Ask for 30 million.. They can pay it!
JT_daniel
I agree...inflate the price...but make sure that we sell him!
redstarman
30 million at least, they paid 32 for a midfielder so for a good forward who knows!
boros_finest
I'm sure they will be back in with a higher bid - but I want him to stay as we will need his goals to keep us up.

Like numerous Man City fans I applaud the fact that Sam Allardyce has dug his heels in over Roque Santa Cruz. Basically many City fans just don't want him and think there's much better value for money elsewhere.
Sindbad
i would be happy to seem him go for 20 million to be honest

I am guessing the bid was around the 15-16 million mark. This wouldnt be enough for me.
Mikey D
Why anyone wants to go to citeh now is beyond me. They only seem to sign Judas players. Surprised Defoe didn't join them.
storagematt
They've signed Lucas Neill storage matt?!?!
Mikey D
dig our heels in and get what we can, we dont have to sell, so id say 25 million
glen9mullan
i do want santa cruz to stay, but if he can command 20m or more, he can go. if i were mark hughes, i would not make another bid because i felt stupid enough already to want to buy the same thing for 10-15m more over a year time
dominator2800
heard from 3 differnet sources today that rovers are to be offered podolski plus 7 million for cruz!!!!!!! now that deal does interest me
glen9mullan
I'd take 18, surely he's worth more than Defoe?
Money4midfield
I would say so Money. I think Glen that podolski is on his way to Roma, cant see him wanting to come here. However if that did happen we would be amd to pass it up!!!
Mikey D
there is no way santa cruz is better than podolski by 7m. podolski is as good if not better...would be sweet though. don't see it happening.
dominator2800
lol it wont happen but it shows how much we value Santa and how the EPL increases your value.
Mikey D
Dont think that rumor is true. No way Bayern are going to offer a ten million valued player plus 7 million for a player they sold for 3.4 million a season and a half ago. Especially when they know first hand about his injury history. I dont care if we are offered 30 million for him. We have to hang on to him. He will guarantee us at least 10 more goals this season and i cant see Matt or Jason getting that many.Where would we end up without those goals. Plus there is no guarantee that any striker we bring in would start scoring unless it is a top end premiership striker and i cant see anyone wanting to release one of them
del
i still think the lack of ability for our midfield to create chances is the bigger problem. i hate to say, santa cruz was scoring plenty last season mainly due to supply from bentley.
dominator2800
I read that Cruz has an £18 million release clause... but can only be activated in the Summer transfer window. Man city bid £15 million for him.
FreidelNo.1
i sure williams aid there was no such clause!!! but if we are all being honest he will sign for city, its just a case for how much and i think it will be for a record amount recieved so it has to be 18mill plus
glen9mullan
I think he may want as much as £20 million. And I would like to think there is no such clause but you know what the press are like!!
