'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Allardyce Warns Fringe Stars

Big Sam will be giving a few of the players not yet seen under him a chance to shine tonight.

But there is another side to the coin - if they put in a bad shift and we are humiliated by an enthusiastic but limited Blyth Spartans, then there futures at the club are in doubt.

Allardyce, speaking to the Sunday Mirror, 'There will be a few changes. We have some injuries and suspensions, but we will pick a side that is more than capable of beating the team we're up against.

"This game is important because it will allow me to pick some players who can show me if they're good enough for Blackburn Rovers. They're playing to show me they can be in the first team.

'It's about me having the confidence to put them in when they're needed. If they let themselves down then they're putting their careers at this club in jeopardy. We can't afford mistakes.

'If we don't win then it's very, very worrying for the players because they won't have shown me what they can do and there wouldn't be much future for them here after that, would there?'

Interesting. Blyth will be up for it tonight but if Rovers play to their strengths and to their best, then we will win. Simple as that.

The message is clear for those playing tonight... lose at your peril.

it doesnt always work playing fringe players....they can try "too" hard.....and cock it up......
lincolnblue
maybe so lincoln blue - but then playing nearly a full first team didnt exactly work wonders for City against Forest did it?!? It can work both ways mate. I am fairly sure Sam is doing the right thing here.

I kind of like the prospect of Vogel and Grella in centralmidfield....probably our best players at those positions in my opinion along with Dunn. At least better footballplayers and balldistributers than Moko and Andrews...
redstarman
vogel should be given a chance for sure.
dominator2800
I can see Vogel playing for sure - I imagine Grella could come off the bench though. Maybe Andrews alongisde Vogel?

Must win for Rovers and the PL. Good luck!

I think the weather will be a leveller tonight. It's not meant to be too nice up there! I would guess the pitch won't entertain free flowing, one touch football (unless the touches include long ball, flick on, and shoot...). Whatever team we put out would 'struggle', in some sense. Aren't Grella and Vogel both holding midfielders? I can't see Blyth being that much of an attacking threat!?

Very clever by Sam this comment should be evry motivational and i hope Vogel gets a go and can really show his class in this game.

1-0 scarcley convincing!! Spartans deserved a second chance I believe.
eastneydave
According to the film, they had 300 on their side, armed with swords, sheilds and no fear of dying! A 1-0 victory isn't too bad then :-)
Decimus Poole
