Allardyce Wields The Axe!!!

Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce has dispensed with the services of Robbie Fowler and Nigel Winterburn.

Fowler and Winterburn were brought to the club by former manager Paul Ince but Allardyce has decided against giving Fowler a new contract and has decided that Defensive Coach Winterburn isn't part of his thoughts either as he can concentrate on the defensive aspect of things himself as that is his forte.

Allardyce told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "We have decided to let Robbie Fowler go. His contract was due for renewal and I decided not to renew that.

"I also spoke to Nigel Winterburn today to say that, from my point of view, in terms of specialist defensive coaching, I think I can look after that area myself now.

"I spoke to Nigel and Robbie, wished them all the best, and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year as well.
"

This can't have been a nice thing for Big Sam to do at this time of year but it was something that was always likely to happen. The defence doesn't seem to have benefited at all from Winterburn's input and Fowler hasn't done ANYTHING to warrant a new contract. Fowler was a gamble, but a gamble that didn't pay off at all (one that we had little to lose with though really.)

Good luck to both Blobby Fowler and Winterburn, things didn't work out for them here but I wish them well.
Walker
good ridance to the pair of them, came to rovers to steal wages, if they had any decency they would donate them to worthy needed causes as many children in britain this year will suffer over the xmas period
