If somebody had told me approximately 7 months ago that we would have changed managers twice, sold Brad Friedel, signed Robbie Fowler, and be second from bottom on the ladder, I would of told them where to go.
However, things happen. City came calling, Villa came calling, Ince came in, Fowler came in, Rovers were on there way down. It took a run of 11 winless games for things to change, but when the tide turns, the surf crashes.
There is a new aura in town. Big Sam has come in. A man with experience, a man respected in the industry. No offence to Ince, he will be a great manager, but its not his time. Sam had two days with the squad. Not enough time to make total changes, but enough time to mark his influence. He brought the lads all together in a hotel room, and told them to start winning. To wake up to themselves. Get the results, get the job done.
9 minutes it took. Benni sent Gamst through, Gamst was fouled, Benni slotted the penalty. Then the unthinkable happened, Roberts scored. 27 minutes in, a lovely flick from Benni sent Roberts in, who in typical fashion, blasted straight at the keeper. Fortunately Benni Pounced, 3-0. Sure, we sat back, sure we missed a few chances later on, but 3-0. We won, we did not concede.
The fans chanted, the players were clapped off, Sam showed his appreciation to the fans, and Benni was hailed as the hero.
The players turned on a show. Hopefully, the first 27 minutes where a sign of things to come. Hopefully, Dunny can stay fit, Grella and Reid can finally get fit, and Rovers keep more clean sheets.
Certain players need to stand up. If we are to fight this battle, the next 5-6 games will make or break us. The first key player that needs to stand up is Paul Robinson. Made a great save, but looked dodgy on corners. Robinson is our last line of defence, if he plays with confidence, our defenders will be confident.
Captain Nelsen. THe organizer needs to take control. Lead by example, im sure he will.
Morton Gamst Pedersen. Our linchpin. The key man in the equation. If Gamst can fire, we will climb the table, enough said
Benni Mc. He needs to score the goals. Roque is on his way, Roberts cant score in a brothel and Derbyshire is still maturing. Benni has a touch of class about him. Sure he wont run 248m to chase a ball, but with the ball at his feet, he can do wonders.
Its time for all our boys to stand up, and show why they are getting paid to play premier league football.
We wont go down
We will fight on
We will climb up
