Time to Stand up and be Counted

If somebody had told me approximately 7 months ago that we would have changed managers twice, sold Brad Friedel, signed Robbie Fowler, and be second from bottom on the ladder, I would of told them where to go.

However, things happen. City came calling, Villa came calling, Ince came in, Fowler came in, Rovers were on there way down. It took a run of 11 winless games for things to change, but when the tide turns, the surf crashes.

There is a new aura in town. Big Sam has come in. A man with experience, a man respected in the industry. No offence to Ince, he will be a great manager, but its not his time. Sam had two days with the squad. Not enough time to make total changes, but enough time to mark his influence. He brought the lads all together in a hotel room, and told them to start winning. To wake up to themselves. Get the results, get the job done.

9 minutes it took. Benni sent Gamst through, Gamst was fouled, Benni slotted the penalty. Then the unthinkable happened, Roberts scored. 27 minutes in, a lovely flick from Benni sent Roberts in, who in typical fashion, blasted straight at the keeper. Fortunately Benni Pounced, 3-0. Sure, we sat back, sure we missed a few chances later on, but 3-0. We won, we did not concede.

The fans chanted, the players were clapped off, Sam showed his appreciation to the fans, and Benni was hailed as the hero.

The players turned on a show. Hopefully, the first 27 minutes where a sign of things to come. Hopefully, Dunny can stay fit, Grella and Reid can finally get fit, and Rovers keep more clean sheets.

Certain players need to stand up. If we are to fight this battle, the next 5-6 games will make or break us. The first key player that needs to stand up is Paul Robinson. Made a great save, but looked dodgy on corners. Robinson is our last line of defence, if he plays with confidence, our defenders will be confident.

Captain Nelsen. THe organizer needs to take control. Lead by example, im sure he will.

Morton Gamst Pedersen. Our linchpin. The key man in the equation. If Gamst can fire, we will climb the table, enough said

Benni Mc. He needs to score the goals. Roque is on his way, Roberts cant score in a brothel and Derbyshire is still maturing. Benni has a touch of class about him. Sure he wont run 248m to chase a ball, but with the ball at his feet, he can do wonders.

Its time for all our boys to stand up, and show why they are getting paid to play premier league football.

We wont go down
We will fight on
We will climb up

Good rallying cry that my Aussie man!!! Roberts cant score in a brothel??! Didnt he score at the weekend?!?! lol...
Mikey D
Mate, there was 2 m between him and the goal, with nothing in the way, if that didnt go in.......lol
sasman
He still had to be in the spot to score. His finishing aint the best but he has his uses, we could do a lot worse!!!
Mikey D
Not roberts biggest fan, however he has shorter odds to score than score a one and one, how many 1 on 1s does he miss
glen9mullan
quite a few... but Benni/Santa/Derbyshire rarely get in the positions that Roberts makes for himself anyway, double edged sword and all that!
Mikey D
Paul Merson made a good point on Soccer Saturday, "if Roberts was a natural goalscorer he'd be playing for one of the big4" and I have to agree with him. He gets himself in great positions, holds up the ball very well and is incredibly dfficult for defenders to deal with. It's no coincidence he gets as many one on ones as he does, but he is not a good finisher. That said he links up well with Benni and as a partnership it works.
spinaker7081
agreed spinnaker and benni has stated on numeroud occasions he loves playing with roberts

dominator2800... bosman signing. Sign him up Big Sam!!!

Yeah, like Mr Mikey said superb rallying call sas!
Walker
Jason Roberts is like Heskey really isn't he. Coveted, but a terrible finisher of a ball. Still, everyone needs a big man these days, and he makes defending a nightmare. Still I want more of Derbs, I just love his blue and white heart!
Money4midfield
I want more of derbs also mate, but the guy is so hot and cold, when he starts up front, he has a shocker, when he comes of the bench, he has an immediate impact. Cheers lads
sasman
I still think we underuse Derbyshire. He doesnt have to start every game, maybe one as a start, two as a sub. That would ease him in... as an impact sub he is great but we need to grrom him as he is the future!
Mikey D
it was harder to miss than to score the stoppage time shot at the end of sunderland game today...credit to him for breaking free from the defense and goalkeeper
