Allardyce: Rovers Were Near Prefect!!!

New Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce got off to a dream start on Saturday as his Rovers side beat Stoke City 3-0 at Ewood Park.

Two goals from Benni McCarthy (who nearly completed a hat-trick) and one from Jason Roberts saw Rovers to a 3-0 win over Stoke. However, we will remain in the relegation zone going into Christmas but we have edged closer to escaping from this and Allardyce was over the moon with a near perfect start to his Ewood reign.

Allardyce told BBC Match of the Day: "I would have to be pretty nit-picking to say that wasn't as perfect as I would have wanted it.

"We have still got a long way to go to get out of trouble, but it is a very nice start. I just tried to give the lads a few pointers, but the big contribution came from the players.

"They showed a real desire and commitment to compete with a Stoke City side that is very difficult to play against.

"We showed a lot of quality in and around the box and the victory was built from a clean sheet mentality in the team.
."

A superb start for Big Sam, but I can't help but be a little disappointed to understand WHY basically the same players can't have done the same under Paul Ince?!?! Yes Big Sam has plenty more experience and might be more respected but can't have done enough in a day that the 3-0 win suggests? Obviously the players were not as behind Ince as they almost always claimed!!!

Well i'm not one to go OTT but i do tend to agree with Big Sam on this one....i dont think he is saying that it was perfect in every way. We weren't silky on the ball with flowing football....we were well organised, and you could see that there was a level of focus that was never there with Ince's teams. Lets not forget that these are good players, but if you send a good team out on to the pitch with no direction or organisation then unfortunately they will lose their way which is what i believe happened with us and Ince. The flip side to this is that Sam got lucky.....he got a Rovers team plus Dunn and Stoke who by the way are the other team to follow West Brom back in to the Championship. I truly believe that we can trust Sam to sort this mess out......i always did!! I trust him enough to sell Roque!!!!!!

Big Sam got it tactically right thats it. We played defensively and counter attacked. Playing to our strengths. We also played players in their proper positions. Great start will be tough game on boxing day though.

We played like we did under Hughes, the way the players are used to. Sam has had 3 days with the guys and you can already see the difference. He will do the trick of that I am sure... good win, no not perfect. But even the most sceptical Rovers fan will find it hard to argue that they were back to their old selves yesterday.

there is alot more to come, he only had a few days with team and apart from 3 goals a clean sheet is what impressed me most
