Villanueva and Ooijer Futures Up For Debate

Carlos Villanueva and Andre Ooijer are two of the faces that Paul Ince is most keen to sort out the futures of.

Both have had speculation about them in the last few weeks and it won't go away until both players futures have been sorted.

Carlos is on a season long loan deal and Andre is about as consistent a performer as you can get for Rovers.

However, whereas Carlos is keen to extend his stay here, Andre Ooijer has been linked with a return to Holland.

Ince, speaking to Sky Sports, said 'There are players that we need to make decisions on'

'We want to keep improving the side and I'll sit down with the Chairman and we'll talk about the situation of players coming in and players going out.

'We are fully aware we have to make a decision on Carlos by the end of December, but it has been hard for him.

'He's a young lad and he needs time to settle in, but because we haven't started the season so well it has been hard to throw him in.

'It would have been nice if we were comfortably mid-table and we could have a look at him so it's a difficult one with Carlos. Andre has been fantastic, he's a character, he's a leader and he's played at major tournaments for Holland.

'He's seen it all before and he's the type of person who's much needed at this club, that is for sure.'

I think we can all agree that we haven't seen as much of Villanueva as we would of liked but there is no doubting he is a talent.

Ooijer on the other hand is a solid member of the squad and can be counted on for good performances in the right and centre spots of midfield.

Time will tell but seasoned players like these two are hard to replace.

Both players are players that personally I feel we should keep hold of but does Andre want to stay here beyond the end of this season?

At a time when the club badly needs some leaders and some creativity i think it is imperative that the club hangs on to these two players. It is obvious to everyone that Carlos has the quality to improve the team and will be a much better player next season. I know that we need some players now so it is up to the board to give Ince some transfer funds so that we will still be in the premiership next season. They are supposed to have the best interests of the club in mind

true, the board needs to free up the funds for players. We need at least 2 in january me thinks... 2 solid performers, a right footed right winger to compliment Brett and a player in the centre so warnock can move back to the left.
Mikey D
I would keep them both

I agree Diego, but is that an option? Who knows what Ince is being told by JW with regards to Carlos? or indeed with relation to Andre. Time will tell. Am interested to see this Egyptian winger we have been trialling, had postive reviews anyhow so fingers X'd

Surelt the footballing decisions go to ince first? then see what is financially viable? I assume that is how it would work anyway?

In relation to what Del said, i fully agree....However, i think it's all to do with finances. If Villanueva is going to cost us 5M which i think was the quoted price at the time then he has to go back home because we need to spend money on players who are going to make an impact NOW. I have criticised Ooijer in the past but i believe he has a part to play....unfortunately i dont think his heart is really in it now. He has publicly said that he wants to go back to Holland. I just think that we need to buy players to make an immediate impact.....

Both should be kept if poss but I see both going, Carlos in Jan and then Andre in the summer. Carlos could be a real talent and I read an interesting perspective from one Rovers fan somewhere saying we should bite the bullet at Ewood and play Carlos behind Roque and Benni with three central mid players behind. I like the idea of this. Our play could get narrow but we haven't got a right winger of true substance att he moment and Gamst aint exactly firing! I think, esp at Ewood this is worth a shot. Esp with Brett and Warnock at full back. They have super energy to get forward and attack and back to defend! What do people think?

Carlos cant leave in Jan can he? I thought it was a year long loan, we have to actually commit to buying him by Jan though dont we?
Mikey D
Roversman - I do like the Formation idea, that is well worth a shot. Could cut out the sloppy defending as well.
