Roberts Puts Pens To Paper On New Rovers Contract

Roberts Puts Pens To Paper On New Rovers Contract

Blackburn Rovers forward Jason Roberts has signed a new three-year contract with Rovers.

Talk of a new deal for the 30-year-old has been going for a while but this new deal (which will run until 2011 with the option of a further year) has now been signed and Roberts is very happy to have got this out of the way and is looking to return the compliment on this faith shown in him.

Roberts told the Lancashire Telegraph: "I've been happy since I've been here for the majority of the time, so I'm happy that it is now signed, sealed and delivered.

"I hope to show the best of my abilities on the pitch.

"It is for another three seasons so I'm very happy with that. I feel good, I feel strong, I feel like I've got a lot of experience and hopefully it will all come together now.
"

The Grenada International looked as though he would be leaving Ewood Park having requested a transfer (which was rejected) last season after becoming frustrated at his lack of opportunities under former Rovers manager Mark Hughes, but then he managed to break back into the starting XI and has been a near regular for Paul Ince. JR started the season superbly, but has gone off the boil slightly recently but this new deal could be the catalyst to re-ignite him again?!?!

Meanwhile Andy Cole is understood to have returned to Ewood in a coaching capacity.

Cole recently brought the curtain down on his playing career, ending this with Championship side Nottingham Forest and he will now join Ince's coaching staff as a strikers coach.

I'm glad to see a new contract signed, maybe a three-year contract for a 30-year-old is a bit of a surprise but Incey obviously has great faith in JR's ability, as do most of us (who have backed him all along!)

Is Cole another 'Friend'...? He is the second best striker in the Premiership, so he must know something about goalscoring, which seems to be what were lacking at present. However, he never came across as the 'coachy' type...I hope I am proven wrong...

I think JR deserves this. He works so hard for the team and whilst he receives criticism about his goalscoring record, having Andy Cole on board would only help him. Cole's premiership record speaks for itself and if he can improve Roberts chance to goal ratio then he could have a great second half of the season if it goes well. All the strikers can only benefit from his experience.

Adds another dimension to our squad. Never was & never will be a scorer though: Had many chances, but never seems to convert them into goals.

Good move to get Jason re-signed. And if there is one player that can make John Terry uncomfortable it is good old J-Rob. He causes trouble for defences like no other striker in our squad... he can leave the scoring to other players - let the apce and pwer benefit the team.

I'm glad about the new deal, hopefully it will spur him on to put in more performances like he was doing at the beginning of the season. Cole would be a good appointment as well and he wont do any harm in showing our striker where the net is.

i always think JR is a solid striker because of his strength and size. however, i just realized he has scored only 10 goals in his fifty something appearances, not so sure about the 3-yr renewal. anymore.

He offers a lot more than just goals though (re: Emile Heskey).

I am glad JR has signed a new contract...he always gives 100 % in the pitch and I know he can still give us good things. About Andy Cole...well, another young and talented profesional can only bring good things, right?

Championship Cost Per Goal So Far In 2016/17

The end of the Championship campaign of 2016/17 is only a month and a bit away from fans across the country but as we go in to the remaining weeks of the campaign...

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
