Santa Cruz In Line For Surprise Comeback

Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince could be given a timely boost with the news that Roque Santa Cruz could be in line for a surprise return from injury in time for the match with Chelsea.

Santa Cruz suffered a calf injury prior to the match with Aston Villa last week and the striker was expected to be out until our Premier League meeting with Sunderland (a week Saturday) but according to reports in the Lancashire Telegraph the Paraguayan International is making good progress in his recovery and could be fit to face Chelsea on Sunday. If Santa is ready then his return will be very timely with Benni McCarthy suspended following his unbelievable sending off against West Bromwich Albion last Saturday.

Further good news for Ince (as the injuries mount up) is the double news that Andre Ooijer should also be fit to return against Chelsea and Brett Emerton's hamstring injury isn't as bad as first thought. The Australian will definitely miss the Chelsea match but could be fit in time to face Sunderland, when he had been expected to be out for up to four weeks.

Some better news on the injury front for us really isn't it, as things seemed to be going from bad to worse! If Santa is ready it will be a MASSIVE boost to have him back in time for Chelsea, however, no risks should be taken and they won't will they.

These are good rumours! I really hope he can play against Chelsea and help the team in an amazing victory that will be a turning point this season

I dont see why were rushing him back for a game like this, we should save him for the Sunderland game, that is much bigger to us and a must win as far as we are concerned. We need a 100% firing Roque.

Yep, don't want Santa rushed back - Chelsea will be a physical game and we don't want him getting another knock. But, he cud play a part of the game

If Santa is ready then play him, but its not worth risking a longer-term injury as a result is it. Incey will only use him if he is ready, and Santa will only want to be used if he knows he is. The pair are professional enough to make the right call.

I agree with Adrian though - no need to play a 70% Santa when we have a 100% Matty and J-Rob.

If he is not 100 % fit, Ok, the he shouldnt' play, but if he is 85, 90%, the he could play for 20, 25 minutes...he could provide some interesting things anyway
