Ince: Decisions Cost Us

Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince felt that refereeing decision against Rovers cost them all three points in the 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Saturday afternoon.

Rovers went ahead through Benni McCarthy's penalty following a pull back on Jason Roberts by Ryan Donk, and Ince felt it was a penalty even if it was soft, however no softer than a later sending off.

Ince told SkySports: "The penalty was a penalty. Donk pulled the lad and you can't do that. It can go either way but you can't pull people in the box.

"It was harsh maybe, but then again so was our sending off.
"

The sending off that Ince spoke of was that of McCarthy's, with him picking up two bookings in the first half. Incey felt this was unbelievable as were the constant awards in West Brom's favour and the sending off made the match even tougher for his side, but he was still pleased with the fight-back and spirit to find a late equaliser through Keith Andrews.

He added: "There was nothing malicious in McCarthy's tackle. This was compounded the second time as the ball hit his shoulder.

"That just kills the game and was a poor decision.

"The referee gave West Brom everything and instead of me telling the lads at half time we can win, I'm saying sit back and soak up the pressure.

"We showed fantastic spirit though and kept going and going.
"

I bet the offence that saw us get our penalty won't be given many more times in the future will it though!

refs are really ****ing up games on a regular basis this season.....

If i have to watch one more referee display like that you can stick your respect campaign where the sun dont shine, albion fans will agree. Even i can admit the penalty decision was poor.

The ref was a joke, even Tony Mobray thought Benni Mac's sending off was ridiculous!

They couldn't have picked a worse season for this respect campaign as there are far too many mistakes being made by refs! Ruined this game for us!

Things would have been different with 11 players a side. Anyway...there are still things to fight for, so let's move on to plan next game

A penalty that shouldnt of been given, a not given penalty that should of been given, a ridiculous red card and both managers agreeing that the ref sucked and blowed at the same time. Well done referee!!!

I don't think the ball hit McCarthy's shoulder, and if there was a push, it was only slight. From the replay it looked like his hand moved towards the ball, and applying the strict letter of the law, a deliberate handball is a bookable offence. However, in reality, it is usually no more than a talking too. Surely, every handball is deliberate, otherwise it would be ball to hand...? I haven't seen many yellow cards given for handball...The penalty, applying the strict letter of the the law, was a penalty. However in reality, these aren't given. As Lawro said in MOTD, the game would never start with all the freekicks that would be awarded. In my opinion he ref got it wrong in both circumstances.

To be fair though all the players and managers want is some consistency... doesnt matter whether it is or isnt, the decisons should be the same all the time unless in EXTREME circumstances.
