Calf Scan Required For Santa Cruz

Calf Scan Required For Santa Cruz

Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz will undergo a scan on his injured calf, which caused him to miss out defeat at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening.

Having been named in the original starting XI, Santa Cruz then had to be withdrawn with Benni McCarthy coming in to replace him. The Paraguayan had been feeling the calf in the early part of the week (and had been suffering earlier in the month) so no chances were taken.

Ray Mathias told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "He'll have a scan to see how bad it is.

"We have to be very careful with calf injuries and make sure Roque is right.

"Roque was feeling his calf from training on Monday and Tuesday. Not playing him was the right thing to do.

"We can't afford to play him in a game and lose him for five or six.

"It's important that we make sure that he is right and plays 10 games on the run for us. That's what we want Roque Santa Cruz for.
"

All we can do is hope that this scan comes back with good news!!!

Worrying times, but it is definitely best to play it safe as the consequences of not doing this could things get even worse. Santa is a key performer for us, but we do have others than can come in so it's not worth taking risks.

That's true Sas, he has missed some important games lately (Like in Argentina 1 - 1 Paraguay) but, he has been and scored in some other important ones (like Paraguay 2 - 0 Brazil). Anyway...he is always the Biggest piece in Paraguay's team (By the way, Paraguay is leading the 2010 WC QUALIFIERS in South America!) Is Roque playing against Chelsea on saturday?
