Admiral Expects Cruz To Stay A Rover

Admiral Expects Cruz To Stay A Rover

Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen has said that he expects Roque Santa Cruz to stay at Ewood Park so he isn't concerned with the recent (again!!!) rumours linking him to Manchester City.

Reports coming from his native Paraguay of an apparent radio interview in which Santa Cruz indicated a desire to join Man City have been denied by his agent (at least the wanting to join Man City!), with him saying they were taken out of context (which I could believe.) Rovers skipper Nelsen has again reiterated how he feels that Santa is happy at Ewood Park.

Nelsen told Sky Sports: "There is a lot of players that get rumours here and there.

"Obviously Roque is a fantastic guy and you want the best for Roque and that is a decision he will make.

"From Blackburn's side I think what the manager can give him, what the club can give him is something these other clubs can't give him. He is really enjoying his football I think.

"I suppose he has turned his career around in a way, where at Bayern Munich it probably wasn't going as well and now he has really kicked on again and he understands Blackburn has done very well for him in that time.
"

The Admiral (or God!) won't be getting on Santa's back trying to reassure him that staying with Rovers is the right thing to do as he doesn't believe that he needs to do this, as he feels that the Paraguayan International will do the right thing, which will be staying at Ewood as he is happy with Rovers and we offer him something that others might not (even if Man City, if they would be interested, might be able to offer a chance at the Title) and that is regular football.

He added: "Obviously there is going to be interest everywhere, there is going to be rumours, it just happens all the time.

"Roque is big and ugly enough to handle it himself really without me sitting down and talking to him.

"He has got to do what is best for him. He is a lovely guy and I know he will make the right decision whether I am talking in his ear, the gaffer is talking in his ear or the papers are making stuff up.
"

I'm not concerned really, if Santa wanted to leave surely he WOULD have in the summer when he had the chance, and NOT signed a new contract! I'm not even sure that Man City would be after him anyway, as would he be "good enough" or a "big enough" name for them!!! Look at other names they are linked with, Santa is a world-class talent but those names are another level. Whatever though January is still a few months away so NOTHING can happen between now and then regardless!!!

......I sort of agree with you Walker.......before our massive money takeover....yes he was probably top of our list to try and bring to City.....but now with all the money available, he is probably much lower down the list of Hughesy's "wants". ..dont get me wrong though I think RSC is a great player, and I would like to see him at City.....

It would all depend on how much "money talks" to the priority targets that Sparky has doesn't it. If this doesn't talk enough for them then it would be Santa that became a priority again, and offering us an amount that would be impossible to refuse wouldn't be hard would it.

Roque is a very good striker, and most teams in the Premiership would benefit from having him on their books. But at Manchester City our priorities just now aren't actually to buy a striker. That appears to be the general view amongst fans at any rate, though Hughes will make his own mind up. We are already the leading goalscorers in the Premiership. Unlike last season, the City problem now is that we are leaking goals like a sieve... The Press just seems to want to keep bringing Roque up because he's worth a story.

I dont mean this in an arrogant way but how many players have left Rovers and been better off for it? Many players have left thinking they are onto a good thing but sometimes, as Walker says a lot... the grass isnt always greener.

I read somewhere (the Metro or Manchester Evening News) that Hughes is after old heads, not superstars. The likes of RSC do head his list of transfer targets. Now that he has the money he can afford cough the required transfer fee. I'm of the opinion that Ince will snap his hand off at anything over £12 mill. Maybe buy a right sided midefielder with it!?!?!

12 million? Ince would be mad to go for that. I dont think he will go Decimus! stop being negative mate! it does suit you!

Positive Signs For Bennett

Bennett was positive of Blackburn being able to see off Lancashire rivals Preston heading into this game at Ewood Park after the Norwich and Fulham results.

Minor Graham Setback

Blackburn had to do without Danny Graham against Preston following the groin problem that forced him off against Fulham last week. He could return against Brighton next week.

Hugely Frustrating

Mowbray admitted Blackburn didn't start the game well against Preston but had then been the dominant side so was 'majorly disappointed' not to record a victory.
