'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rovers Out Of Race For Free Agent

Paul Ince has declared that Rovers would like to sign Steven Appiah after he left Turkish football but there is one problem - he is asking for too much in his pay packet.

"It is a transitional period for us," said the new Rovers boss, speaking to Sky Sports.

"We don't have the resources that other teams have. Players like Appiah might be free agents but they still want wages of around £60,000 a week.

'I've known about him since he was at Juventus a few years ago but players like that ask for the world and we just can't compete."

I am sure Paul is making the right call here. We have to stay within budget restrictions. We would have to break the club wage structure to even think about signing him and it wouldn't be worth it.

Numerous players would be upset that they get paid less and would affect the club in the long run.

The right call I feel.

Add to that the fact this Appiah lad is consistently injured. No team wants to take the risk on him as he currently wants too much ie big bucks, long contract but clubs are unwiling due to his fitness record. He has been a free agent for a while now which isn't a good sign as he does have talent.

durks de rover if only you knew what you were talking about!!! he only got injured once and he was out for long because of a bad operation by the fener doctors. he has had no major injuries before. he is world class and i dont know why he shud be asking for peanuts just to play in the EPL,he is an ex juventus player for petesake. dont be sour he dont want to join blackburn

Appiah is a superb footballer but if he wants money that is out of our wage structure we don't break it for him. There don't seem to be many clubs banging his door down though do there, so maybe unless he drops his demands he will carry on being a FREE agent?!?!

Papa his injury was picked up a few years ago maybe two and he was initially out for a while and has had a few injury problems since arising from said knee injury. Thats why he is still a free agent because clubs are expressing concerns over his fitness in the future. If there were no problems than I dont think he would still be a free agent for the last, what, two months? I'm not bitter he didn't join Rovers in fact I didn't know we were even interested in him until I read this article.

He may have to drop his demands... how long can he last being a free agent???

Guys, i'm with Durks, Papa doesn't know what he is talking about!! lets be honest, there's gotta be something wrong with any player who has played at the top and then can't get a contract anywhere for love nor money!! The concerns have to be either about fitness, wage demands, temperament, ego etc etc.....If he was as good as Papa is saying then why haven't Arsenal taken him????? They are desperate for a combative midfielder and haven't even taken a sniff!!! My guess is that he's overrated by himself and his advisors, good players don't become free agents unless they want to!!! FACT
