'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Simpson Hails Winterburn

Danny Simpson has been praising the advice given and work done over the last week or so of Blackburn's new defensive coach Nigel Winterburn.

The 44-year-old former Arsenal and England left back was part of a very famous back 4 at Arsenal. He was appointed this summer as a defensive coach for Rovers. He wasn't allowed to do much work over the first few weeks as international duties kept players away.

However, Winterburn's input clearly did the trick at the weekend as Rovers kept a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against Fulham. The defense as a whole looking much better following on from two four goal defeats against the Gunners and bogey team West Ham.

Simpson, who is with Ince's Rovers on a season-long loan from Manchester United, has been the first to acknowledge the work done by Nigel.

Speaking to Lancashire Evening Telegraph, Danny said: 'As a full-back he has given me a lot of advice. But he has helped out the whole squad with his knowledge.

'We've looked back at tapes of how goals were conceded, and it's the little things he has picked up on that you don't realise when you're playing.

'So we had a good talk, we then took it onto the training pitch and it paid off at the weekend.

'We felt there was a big difference in the game against Fulham, so he has helped us a lot, and hopefully he can keep doing so.

'When you concede four goals in consecutive games, it's not a nice feeling, either as a player or for the fans.

'But we got three points on Saturday, we've moved up the table and confidence is back and things look brighter.'

Kind words from young Danny, giving us an inisght into how things work. Another shut out tonight against Everton and the confidence will grow.

We at Everton are all hoping Alan Stubbs has a similar impact on our defensive frailties! Our backline is crying out for a bit of leadership and communication and Stubbsy was always talking, always organising at the back in his playing days. We all hope this will rub off on the defence now that Stubbsy is back at Finch Farm in a coaching role.

good defender was Stubbs. I am sure both will have a positive effect on their respective clubs as both are in tune with the modern game. From our end Winterburn certainly had an impact in the lead up to Saturdays game... the silly mistakes the defnece were making had been cut out. Warnock and Samba in particular were much better!!!

As a gooner, we were all disappointed he didn't get the chance on the coaching staff at the Emirates. Hope he does weel for you, and he eventually finds his way home.

Another clean sheet on Wednesday, Winterburn seems like he is now getting to grips with his defensive job and the players are taking it in?!?!
