Nelsen : Lets Find A Balance

Captain Ryan Nelsen has spoken to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph about Rovers' leaky defence and insists a more cautious approach should be taken by Paul Ince to ensure promising attacking play is complimented with sturdy defence.

Blackburn`s Admiral insists Saturday`s 4-0 Arsenal drubbing was rough justice on Paul Ince`s men - and it was, as Rovers were worthy of parity heading in at the break, only whne Rovers went gung ho did they get caught out with 2 late goals... the same as at West Ham 2 weeks ago.

But make no mistake about it, Rovers have been conceding some sloppy goals and the Rovers captain has been the first to notice.

Maybe some strong defensive displays from the Hughes days would help, maybe there is a way to blend the Ince 'attacking style' with the Hughes 'balanced approach'?...

Ryan Nelsen gave his thoughts on Rovers as a club, the Arsenal game and the impact of Paul as manager so far... interesting reading this kids.

Ryan, speaking to Lancashire Evening Telegraph, said: "It has been really frustrating the last couple of weeks because the performances have been good but we are just leaking some horrendously soft goals.

"It is just finding the right balance at the moment.

'We are trying to play nice attacking football, going forward, and probably don`t have the balance right at the moment and we are becoming a bit open.

"Cavalier is a good word but in saying that it is probably my fault and I should probably keep the reins on the horses a bit.

"We want to play, and play some entertaining football.

'It is a good attitude to have but we have been successful in the past by being tight at the back and we might need to get back to that."

"It is really frustrating because we could have been leading at half time. I thought we should have been.

"The performances have been fine but just some slight changes to the balance and we will be fine. Of course we are confident we can put this right because the personnel is great.

"I think Arsenal`s passing is second to none, they have the ability to do that.

'It can be fantastic football and fantastic to watch but the frustrating thing for us is we could have had two or three goals in that first half.

"I think that is probably the difference between the game at the moment."

"The speculation has not unsettled us at all.

'There are always rumours about Paul Ince, about the camp, about spirits being bad and all that.

"First he is not good enough and now he is linked with Newcastle, where do all these stories come from? What are you guys doing here?

"Trying to kick the guy out and yet he is good enough at Newcastle?

'He has been fantastic since he has got here. As I say we will play some good football, we just need to tweak that balance a bit more."

A great read and some constructive words from the captain, lets see them put into action...

Furthermore, I know the last two weeks haven't been great result wise but lets back the team. More positive talk on the forum guys, we ain't going to get any better by knocking the guys.

Mikey, back from holiday for all your Rovers needs.

Good words from the big man.... He is very in tune with what the fans expect by the looks of things.

good football begins from the back..bad midfield bad defence bad keeper and even worse manager..
oztheman
Good god Oz, did you read the message at the bottom of the article? Solid midfield, an under peforming defence, an improving goalkeeper a promising manager.... thats what we have, back them and they will come good. I promise.
MikeyGamst
Mikey you're an optimist but i'm inclined to lean on your end of things as i have seen enough to think that if we can get at a team the way we got at Arsenal for a good half hour we were on top then i think we can do some real damage to teams and some team may jsut get a hiding from us.
durks de rover
Someone needs to be Durks!!! lol... I think if we attack like that at most teams we will do again but we deffo need to defend better.
MikeyGamst
Ryan's a great leader - he doesn't dodge the issue and puts his hand up to take responsibility for it. Gotta respect that.
Desert Kiwi
Definitely desert... a true captain.

oztheman - Dude do you want Rovers to succede, as you've not ONCE backed anyone since Sparky left, Incey can do no right no matter what he does as far as you're concerned can he?!?! We're shipping WAY too many goals, but we're playing football that isn't that bad, if anything we are playing football that is too good that it's leaving us far too exposed at the back. The results will come, I wonder what way you will be leaning then dude?!?!
Walker
I think if we won 8-0 he would still say Keith Andrews had a shocker and Paul Ince got the tactics wrong.
MikeyGamst
Oz is ever tyhe pessimist but i gotta say that Incey is brave!! I watched all of the match on TV over in Cyprus and iv never seen us create so many chances!! very poor at the back but i gotta feelin we're in for a helluva ride!!!

Deffo... we created a lot in the first half. Lets have more of the same but as Nelsen says : get the balance right.
