Ince Feels Rovers Were Hard Done By

Blackburn Rovers manager Paul Ince doesn't believe that the 4-0 defeat Rovers suffered at Ewood Park to Arsenal on Saturday afternoon told the whole story of the match.

Rovers had chances to score against Arsenal, but not taking them against a side of their quality always leaves you open to punishment. Robin Van Persie put Arsenal ahead but missed chances (at both ends) saw Rovers dealt a suck blow on the stroke of half time when Emmanuel Adebayor added a second. Further chances went begging for Rovers, and then two second half goals saw Adebayor complete his hat-trick and give Arsenal what appears to be a comfortable win, but Ince feels this wasn't entirely the case.

Ince told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "I thought in the first 45 minutes the boys did ever so well to be fair.

"We created a host of chances but so did they. It could have been something like 4-3. But we were definitely in the game but the goal just before half-time killed us.


Poor defending was a major part of our undoing (as it has been for most of the season to date) and Incey knows this is something of a problem area, and something we need to work on.

He added: "Had we gone in at 1-0 down then we'd be saying keep doing what you are doing, but a lack of concentration and suicidal defending has cost us.

"You can't give any team a two-goal start, let alone a very good Arsenal side, and once it went 2-0 it was important that we got an early goal in the second half but that never looked like coming.

"Then it was a case of just playing and trying to get back in the game, but Arsenal are a very good side, thankfully we haven't got to play them every week.

"There are a lot of things to work on defensively, conceding eight goals in two games is not good.

"Even though we are playing well and are creating chances we certainly need to tighten up a bit.
."

We just have to move on from this defeat and not dwell on it, however, I'm sure that some will!!!

It didn't reflect the game, but It reflected our defending, I'm very disappointed by the attitude on the forum after this game. Get behind the team for once in a bad spell that's the only way we can come back stronger.

I think if most fans our honest they would have been reasonably happy with a point at everton and west ham given our recent results there plus 3 points against hull and would not have expected too much against arsenal anyway so we are still only a point behind where we should of been after such a difficult start. As for today Warnock was at fault for 3 goals. He cant expect Nelson to cover the whole box while he stands 10 yards from the play. He badly needs to work on his positioning. On the plus side Brett put some great crosses into the box and could be an able replacement for Bentley. I cant believe the improvement in creating chances compared to last year. Everyone including myself was crying out for a creative midfielder and now he cant even get in the team. That side of our play has to be attributed to ince. If we could just sort out the defence then we would definitely be in the european places. To be fair to Andrews he held his own in the first half and Simpson looked useful aswell

Spot on Del, we were woeful at the back but had we scored an equaliser we could have really punised Arsenal who first half looked there for the taking.

Well Ince said we were still in it at half time, 2 goals down don't think so. He got the tactics wrong to be fair today. But why did he change a winning team against Everton, i can't understand except for injuries. But Reid and Andrews can't paly togeather in my eyes effectively.

Roverjoy - Ince didnt say we were in it at half time. He said conceding just before half time took the game away from us. If we had gone in one goal down we were well and truly still in it. He's right, bad time to concede that second goal. And Oz... seriously mate, please talk sense or say somet constructive.
