Benni Welcomes Sunderland Interest???

Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy was on Thursday being quoted as welcoming a possible move to Sunderland if they do come in with a firm offer.

The South African is understood to be on the Sunderland wanted list, with him reportedly a £9 million target!!! McCarthy claims the interest is genuine and would go (no Champions League football ever here Benni lol!) as he isn't happy sitting on the bench at Ewood, however, he has said that he will respect Paul Ince's wishes.

McCarthy was quoted in the Sunderland Echo as saying: "They're not really happy times for me but it's still all right.

"It's frustrating if you work hard especially with all the rumours going on and then you don't play.

"Sunderland's interest is very much for real and I'm looking to see in the next week what's going to happen because you know I'm 31 in November so sitting on the bench or not playing is not an option for me.

"If I can't make the starting line-up at Blackburn then I'm wasting time.

"Paul Ince has made his intentions clear, he doesn't want me to go, he wants me to stay and from my point of view I respect the manager.

"I can't have any complaints - Jason was awesome at Everton
."

You are never quite sure what to believe when players are quoted are you, however, it wouldn't surprise me if he had said such things. Personally I think that if Sunderland do offer big money for him then we should let him go. He is a superb footballer, but he is one that does have the characteristics to cause unrest if he is unhappy and isn't going to get back to his early form with Rovers is he?

IF he wants to go and IF Sunderland want him and the offer is two or three times what we paid for him let him go. He WON'T be the star player that we saw in his first season at Ewood again will he and he is almost 31! I'm still not convinced by these rumours though?

i truly do belive these rumours, its typical benni, but i agree he is 31 and if the manager doesnt belive he will break the 1st team thn he shud be allowed to go, and if the fee's are true thn wooooooop! 9 million 4 benni yes plz!
kendog
sell him anythin over 5 mill accept cus he is 31 now best offer we will get for him

This is a setanta sports exclusive apparently. I wouldn't really hold much stock in this. Setanta are a poor mans sky sports. The game next Wednesday is the perfect game for Benni. No disrespect to Grimsby but if Benni could get a couple of goals against them then he would have some confidence and maybe kick on and have a good season. I cant believe that he has become a bad player after one bad season. I think he is still capable of 15-20 goals a season but he is definitely a confidence player

IF he welcomes it then it shows that he's not up for the fight of trying to get back into the team and would rather take the easy way out and swap to another team!!! I think that should Sunderland offer a silly amount for wot would/should be are 3rd or indeed 4th choice striker then we should rip the arm off them for it, no offense to Benni and i know he had a fantastic 1st season but he may be one of the more replaceable players in the Rovers squad at present
Clint
Given he looks like he spent the summer living in Mcdonalds and on top seems to have lost the use of his legs, its time to cash in if poss.
MajiRovers
Just like I said in my thread before this news was out, cash in for a 31yr old who clearly lacks in heart and effort for the team and the club now. Use the money to bring in a fresh face either up front or elsewhere on the pitch.

He did look a bit beefy on Satruday!!! knuckle down Benni....
