Do The English Press Hate Ince And Rovers?

The weekend`s victory away at Everton marked what could be a defining moment in the early Blackburn Rovers career of Paul Ince.

Ever since the self-titled Guv`nor - who has now distanced himself from that moniker - took the fast track from League Two to the Premiership via a very brief introduction to League One, he has been quietly going about his business. Well this would have been the case but for the malcontent masquerading as speculation and conjecture, conjured by some quarters of the English press.

Ince would appear to have been the victim of a hate campaign designed to smear his introduction to top-flight management. Baptism of fire is a term that has been banded around copious previews, reviews and descriptions of Ince`s early days in charge of Rovers.

Whilst the majority of the English press don this apt phrase, it is the same people who have created the furore and spurious image of life at Ewood under Ince that lends itself to this popular idiom.

Without hunting down and outing all the sources of these claims of players wanting out, not liking Ince`s approach and creating splinter factions we will never know the absolute truth but I pose the question: who has actually spoken of their discontent of life at Ewood?

I`m yet to hear it. David Bentley always spoke of bettering himself as a player and good look to him whereas Brad Friedel spoke about having an offer he couldn`t refuse. Nothing there of a star player speaking out against Ince.

Further to this Stephen Warnock, who is angling for a move to Newcastle according to some quarters of the press, spoke of his happiness at Rovers only a month ago. Then there is Roque Santa Cruz who is going to approach Rovers to ask for a transfer. Has this happened? No.

The display on Saturday served to give two-fingers to some sections of the press who could be accused of having an agenda that wouldn`t be out of place in football 30 years ago or in Spain.

Why there has been such ill-feeling generated from loose stories and unnamed sources pose some awkward questions that rear the ugly head of a term that has been attached to Ince`s appointment since day one.

Considering how little activity there has been at Ewood - two departures and just three first team acquisitions, two of which are youngsters - the amount of controversy and column inches afforded to Rovers has been surprising.

Ince has even been giving messrs Ronaldo, Adebayor and Barry a run for their money in the press stakes even though his forays into the transfer market have been few and far between.

His appointment was never going to saunter under the radar but this sort of doom-mongering hasn`t greeted a top-flight manager for years.

The jury is still out for Ince as a manager but that is what he should be measured on and he has been vociferous in requesting this from people. People have been meddling in affairs at Ewood this summer, which has seen complete lies published (note the Stephen Warnock transfer request reports) and could have severely harmed preparations for the smallest town club in the Premiership.

Still Saturday spoke volumes of these inaccurate reports as togetherness was on show from the whole team.

I wait with bated breath for the next few games but hopefully the win at Everton and more importantly the team unity on show will help give Ince some respite and quell the malcontent emanating from some sections of the press.

You think you are being treted unfairly by the media it's absolutely nothing compared to being a City fan.
alphieblues
alphieblues i agree that you guys are getting a rough ride, its the price you pay for being the neighbours of the biggest club in the world, and a team that is well supported in london were all the press is based!! Looking at what has been written abt rovers has really got me mad. Weve been written of my most pundits, such as Tony Cascarino, he say we will finish no higher than 14th and we would be lucky to stay out of a relegation fight!! while Spurs are gonna bust in to the top six!!! grrrr. The Red tops are the worst!!! Fillwed with lies why does anyone buy them you can not trust them to say any truth!! Its all speculation and conjectured twisted into a story they think they can sell! I HAVE GIVEN UP ON THE PAPERS THERE ALL SCUM!!

I sympathise with City and to an extent Newcastle as well but nothing has compared to the ridiculous lies said about Blackburn this summer. Pathetic some people are... lets do the talking on the pitch. I cant wait for 1st of Sept as well... no more transfer speculation.
MikeyGamst
Very true Mikey. I can sympathise with Citeh fans a little but what do you expect if you allow a suspected crook run your club?!?!? As for us it has been the sheer lies that have perturbed me the most. They always say there isn't smoke with out fire but the press have been making aimless fires everywhere!!
roversman
Oh and SGL...I hope you aren't tarring my modest papers with that same brush lol!!!
roversman
I stand up and applaud. The best article i have ever read on this website. Roversman, you have said it all...Touche...Touch. I have said it over and over, we always get the pointy end of the knife from the press, and end of the day, stuff em..
sasman
Hope you and I both finish above the Spuds and make the media eat their words.

durks de rover
Best way that Durks... just show em on the pitch.
MikeyGamst
Let them say whatever they want...that will make Rovers stronger
diegoveron
As I think I said the other day. Just take what they write and use it as a team talk...
MikeyGamst
lol roversman no im not tarring your paper with the same brush, by the way your article is very well written, very eloqent, of much higher quality than the papers!!

Good cover up SGL.... lol

I think it is just a total lack of respect. On the day that Julio Cruz signed for us some minor player signed for Fulham. Now to my mind and maybe i am being biased here but the fact that the brother of one of the top 5 strikers in the premiership signed for rovers seemed to me to be a bigger story than some nobody signing for Fulham and yet the Fulham story was covered under breaking news while the Rovers story was not reported on all day. Add to this the fact that our players are being constantly linked to clubs which have being nowhere near us in the last few seasons and you will see exactly what the press think of us. I think the people who report these lies should be named and shamed. How about a separate league for bulls*****s. Top of the league so far would definitely be the mirror
del
Iv gotta be honest boys i dont think that the press have a specific dislike of us............i think that we have been an easy target this season. We have lost our manager and arguably our best two players and we're seen as an easy target. Another couple of performances like saturday will end it all and then they'll return to the Newcastle's and City's of this world!!

Mirror would win that every year Del!!!!
