Dunn Appointed Rovers Vice-Captain

David Dunn has been appointed as the Blackburn Rovers vice-captain this season by manager Paul Ince.

Being handed this responsibility seems to cast aside any doubts that the 28-year-old might not have featured that much for Rovers as he will be the man next in line to skipper the club if/when Ryan Nelsen is unavailable, as will be the case at the start of the season (Nelsen is playing in the Olympic Games) and the Rovers fan is honoured to have been handed this.

Dunn told the Official Blackburn Rovers Website: "As a Blackburn fan I'm very pleased.

"If Nelly is missing then I'll be able to captain the team which will be great. I'm pleased with it
.

Ince has made Dunny his vice-captain as he believes he is the perfect role model for everyone at the club, is well respected and has shown his qualities to him since he came to Ewood Park.

Ince added: "Since I've come in he's been an excellent example, not just to the young lads but to everybody else.

"Being a local lad, I think its important, and he's got leadership qualities. I said to him it is now up to you to show me that you have those leadership qualities, I see it in you, it is now for you to show that with the rest of the players.

"On the field he's a fantastic player, he can make things happen. He's got responsibilities now both on and off the pitch, and I just thought it was the right idea.

"If he does the things that I know he can do then I think he'll be a great replacement to come in if Ryan Nelsen ever did get injured, fingers crossed that won't happen, or was away on international duty
."

Congratulations to Dunny on this honour.

I like the decision that Incey has made here, and why he has made it as it's based on all the right factors.

yeah i agree mate, its a positive step for Ince, Dunn is a local lad and has fire in his belly for the club!!

I'm pleased for Dunny but not exactly sure about this move. Still hope it works out.

DUNN is NOT the man to lead a team he laughs and jokes too much for others to take him seriously..picture him telling Samba where to go..sorry David no offence to you but Ince is NOT going to win this rovers fans heart by a cheap local move..

Oz, Dunn did berate Samba last season, in a game that I can't remember, but I am sure one of my fellow VF members will assist me with. I have to say I was a little surprised at this decision, he doesn't come across as a natural leader. However, I cannot think of anyone else who would fit the role. Maybe Reid (he has captained Ireland...)

Well why buy a stricker if not to usettle a team who have 4 class very good strickers???????has Ince done ANY homework at all??or does he want an unsettled team??even shearer wasnt vice captain hendry was...why ask dalglish who knew how to run a team..so far Inces every move is cheap and MK DONS like he also has to realise he needs settled players to play for him..my bet is he wont last till xmas..HOPE I AM WRONG..

Good news for Dunn, he has worked hard it sounds like so deserves it in my eyes, his ambition for the club is there, and being a fan will give 110%.

DUNN IS GOIN BE QUAL HE HAS A FUN SIDE TO HIM WHICH WILL HYPE THE SQUAD BUT HAS ALSO SHOWN IF PEOPLE ARE NOT PULLING THERE WEIGHT AROUND LIKE SAMBA AT WEST HAM HE WILL MOAN AT YOU AND LETS FACE IT IF HE WILL MOAN AT SAMBE HE WILL MOAN AT ANYONE OF THE SQUAD
Lets Do The Samba
I approve. The factors behind this decision are all the right ones and Dunny is a leader. So what if he shouted at Samba??? That only shows that he has a passion for the club and wants us to do well... good work Ince.
