Rovers Prepare To Spend The Bentley Money!!!

The Official Blackburn Rovers website confirmed last on Wednesday Evening that an agreement had been reached with Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of David Bentley. His move to Tottenham will be officially announced today, so after giving Arsenal their cut the spending should begin!!!

The name that is understood to be at the top of Paul Ince's wanted list is Liverpool's right-winger Jermaine Pennant, who has disappointed on the whole at Anfield following a big money transfer from Birmingham City. Ince could bring Pennant to Ewood Park for around £6 million, but could face competition with Portsmouth understood to be preparing an offer as well.

Other names heavily in the frame (which as we know please sasman!!!) are Australian Internationals Vince Grella and Mark Bresciano. However, it is 28-year-old Grella that is attracting most interest with a firm offer to rival that of Fulham likely to come along now that Incey has the money from the departure of Bentley. Milton Keynes Don's skipper Keith Andrews continues to see his name mooted with a move to Ewood but Rovers keep denying an interest in the midfielder.

I'm not really a fan of Pennants but if we could sign him and Grella with the money we got from Bents after giving Arsenal what we owe them (and maybe even Bresciano as well, however, I think all three with this money would be unlikely?!?!) I would be pretty happy.

Invest it wisely - I have the feeling this could be a bumpy season for you lot!
merlin
How much of the transfer fee so Arsenal get? I heard it was in the region of £7 million.
Decimus Poole
I heard the same amount DP - Merlin don't worry yourself... I think there will be more bumps for Chelsea than us...
FreidelNo.1
The only problem with signing Pennant, if Pompey are also in for him, will be Liverpool holding out for a high price... something that I don't think he's worth. I think anything over £4.5 million will be expensive... but as we have a large sum now, Liverpool will know we can afford it
FreidelNo.1
Not sure if we want Pennant at Pompey. I also heard the £7m to Arsenal story. That's a massive sell on clause.
storagematt
I like Pennant and he has pace which is something that we lack. But we shouldnt be overspending on him. Grella and Bresciano are good and should be considered... especially with Sas on here. He would be delighted!!!
MikeyGamst
It must have been a 40%-45% sell on clause, which is probably why he was so cheap in the first instance! I think anything over £5 million for Pennant is expensive.
Decimus Poole
Firstly, you have no idea how happy I am to have Bentley at Spurs, I rate him very highly... and I don't think we've been ripped off over the fee either. What are your thoughts on Bentley at Blackburn?
Dan Mac
Yeah, great signing for you - pity you have no strikers that can head a ball!!!!
Wellsy
Dont the Arsenal get a signing on fee for Pennant as well? Spend all of your £8 mill wisely..........and thanks Spuds for the £7 mill - paid outright for Ramsey!
Sue_afc
What is this, an Arsenal rejects' tracking website?

MikeyGamst
haha... oz the man? wat didya say? lol... didnt quite get that either, pennant-5mil, grella-3mil, bresciano-5mil and patrick ochs(RB)-2mil ther th sums ive heard... so thtl b 15mil spent....
whitey_82003
think oz the man was little tipsy lol! we shud get duff back, did any1 see him score tht hat-trick, the guy was immense, we shudnt move 4 pennant!!!
kendog
oztheman - I'm not quite sure what you are saying either, but lets be fair Bents made is VERY clear he wanted out. Do we really want to keep unhappy players?!?! We've got a good deal, Spurs got what they wanted now lets see him realise the grass isn't always greener ;)
Walker
obomba - If you don't have anything useful to say DON'T say anything at all dude!!!
Walker
Well, I will end my exile from the site and start by saying that it is a huge relief that Bents has finally gone. I wish him all the best at Spuds. Now to the money. I would like to see a rigth winger come in with pace and was encouraged by Mathis' comments. I am also interested in the Aussie duo as they would bring experience and a quality to our midfield but am not sure where that would leave the futures of reid, vogel and maybe even dunny. The axe should be shipped out for any fee someone will pay! Hope all are well.
roversman
I am intrested in Rovers buying a player without putting him on trial first..Bentley was a good kick up coars rear because he didnt want to pay for him now half goes to arsenal who won?
