Ince : First Month A Baptism Of Fire

Ince : First Month A Baptism Of Fire

Blackburn manager Paul Ince has admitted his first month in the job has been a tough one - mainly due to the constant speculation linking Rovers' players away from the club.

Since Ince took over from Sparky, the 41-year-old has not really had much chance to spen the money we have on improving the squad, he has spent most of the time fending off interest in our players from other clubs and the constant (borderline ridiculous) speculation that surrounds them.

As far as Ince and most Rovers fans are concerned, the media have declared a field day with players such as Stephen Warnock, Brad Friedel, Roque Santa Cruz, Dave Bentley, David Dunn, Chris Samba (I could go on). Apparently everyone who has played for the Rovers's first team wants to leave this summer!!!

Ince's comments to the Lancashire Evening Telegraph show his frustration:

"It`s been a hard start, what with the Brad situation, and the Bentley situation, and Warnock,"

"It has been difficult and I`ve been annoyed about it - I just wish people would leave my players alone because it has really wound me up.

"We are trying to build a squad here, and we are trying to add new faces, but also keep the vast majority of the existing team..

"People are trying to unsettle my players, which I`m not very happy about, but we`ve just got to get on with it.

"I`ve got a good group around me and I`ve seen on our pre-season tour that a lot of the lads here still want to play for this team.

"If someone is determined to leave, there`s not much you can do about it - it`s very difficult to stand in their way.

"But, as far as I`m concerned, I`m just trying to focus on bringing people in, rather than thinking about people who want to go."

Having already lost the immortal Brad Freidel to Aston Villa and Bents also likely to leave soon, the rest of the squad must be kept in tact.

Ince isn't the only one who is annoyed, we the fans are too.

Warnock, Cruz, Dunn etc are all happy here. Why can't the media see that? Ignorance at it's finest.

I think the media can go do one. If clubs want to bid for our players then they can dom there is nothing we can do about that. But the media view us as a sitting duck at the moment... but it is up to the board, the manager adn the players to stand up to them. Pathetic some parts of the media... pathetic.

The media is pathetic matey, they just always seem to think small club blackburn, players never happy, blah, blah, blah, lets just leave it at our little secret aye lads....ROVERS 4 LIFE

I think the Duff - Warnock "swap" is a funny one, why would Blackburn let one of the better left backs in the Premier League go in swap for a left winger, when we have Gamst, Peter and Treacy?!?! and especailly to Newcsatle!!! Just because we let Brad go, to an American owned club, who doubled his wages, at the stage of his career ( with maybe 2 yrs at the top left )and quite possibly letting Bentley go ( for more than he's worth but who care, plus the fact that he thinks he's bigger than the club ) its like Rovers have suddenly become this mad selling club looking to get rid of the better players and as for Dunn going to Boro, please, this is the real world, why would a Rovers fan, who fought to get back - want to leave and play for Boro?? Its madness i tell u, madness!!!! When will the press realise that we may not have as big a ground as St James etc but we consistantly out do the so called bigger clubs in the league, by keeping together a good talented squad

I hope we can hold on to all the rest with the exception of Bentley who would not be happy if he opened the door and someone said "here you go David I got you the moon on a stick" Warnock for Duff must not happen, Dunn is a great impact player. Its time for Ince to stick his middle finger up and say tough lads thats it no-ones going!
28/07/2008 15:33:00
He really should get used to it though or he'll want to quit. Our players are always going to be linked away but we have a good club here and as long as we have a strong willed manager and chairman then we will be okay

The rumours haven't helped him but like durks says this WILL keep happening, as other clubs DO want our players as they are so good, but this doesn't mean they will leave. Grin and bear it Incey, its frustrating but you learn to ignore it, or better still laugh it off!
28/07/2008 19:17:00
Normally we get one or two being linked away, but this year its the whole team, everyone even Dunn and the axe!!! I hope the players are happy with the new regime and its all just paper talk!
28/07/2008 21:36:00
Dunn would not go... what a silly comment about him going to Boro. We will be fine I am sure and with time Ince will learn this is going to be the norm!!!
29/07/2008 12:51:00
Get on with it Incey!!! This is how it is when you manage in the premier League....what you need t do is make the place somewhere that nobody wants to leave like Hughesy did!! Great first signing in Robinson. Need to follow it up with more quality....a big year for the club, me thinks!! Hughesy could only succeed from where he started, this is not the same situation with Ince and i hope he can deal with the pressure!!
29/07/2008 15:15:00
you need to keep Bentley as he's been so important in shaping your attack. of course, keep Santa first and foremost!
