Spurs agree Bentley Fee....

Blackburn Rovers Chairman John Williams and Spurs Chairman, David Levy have reportedly agreed on a 17 million pound transfer fee for Rovers winger, David Bentley. Additional to this deal, Paul Robinson will be heading over to Ewood Park.

This provides two points of discussion. 17 million pounds is fair enough in my opinion for David Bentley. However, with Paul Robinson also included, we surely have the better of the deal.

But, with Robinson coming our way, does this mean the end of the Friedel would be shame as we all love our American Idol.

More to be confirmed as the news breaks.....

I think it is good Spurs getting ripped off again, and if a bumper offer came in for friedal then hard to resist given his age. I think RObinson just needs a change of scenary don't forget he was England Number one and still has many years ahead of him.

I agree that Robinson will be ok once he changes scenery. Too much pressure on him right now and every error is magnified. In terms of 17m for Bentley I would bet it will be 9m up front and the rest on appearances. I just cannot see Spurs paying that upfront.

the deal is probably worth 17m in total. So We would pay 13m spread over 4 years or so is my guess..

Getting rid of Robbo is worth paying 17m for Bentley. Agree Tailor, the fee for Bentley will be based on appearances ect. Levy is a shrewed businessman, he knows what to do.

doubt it, rovers would want cash up front, remember a percentage is going to the gooners, really wanted huddlestone part of ny deal ah well

That's right RD, Levy is proper shrewd. Another factor everybody is overlooking is how much is Robbo valued as part of this deal? They call it a 17m deal but it could be 11m + Robb (if valued at 6m) - who knows. Getting rid of Hollywood Robinson is a priority for Spurs for sure.

Now that we are better than you league wise, you think we'll be relegated as you have bought Bentley from us? And what is it you still believe, stillbelieve?

From what I understand, Friedel is likely to join Villa which is why Ince is looking at Robbo. But I dont like the sound of Bentley going to Spurs, I want him at the Villa!!

ive heard alot of spurs fans are a bit doolally and voting on our poll? spurs will always be this team who spends alot of money and doesnt achieve much! itl be 17mil upfront, if you boys say levy is a shrewd business man, ........ then i do not kno what our boy john williams is..... best chairman in th country easily, in every aspect!

there will be no installments! Williams will get every penny otherwise it will be no deal. Robbo should be about 4M you will not see us parting with anymore for him. Spurs are desperate to get rid of a lot of players, we are not.

All large transfer deals are in installments and add ons, a one time 17m up front is never going to happen anywhere. On the price tag it'll probably be the asking price (i.e. 17m) with rovers taking Robinson in a separate deal worth 4m-5m, although Bently's good 17m and Robbo is wishful thinking

If the spurs wanna do a installment plan (not really surprising that!) then it will be over no more than 12months. Given they are about to rake in 50M + by selling keane and that chap who's not as good as RSC, I for one reckon they can afford it all up front!

Levy is a shrewd businessman???.... news flash guys, so is our main man John Williams. Levy will pay what we are asking if he wants to get him. Arsenal get a cut of the fee as do oursleves (obviously). The installments should be over 12 months. Brad will not be leaving, he doesnt want to and we dont want him to.

Fair enough n17yid... however several Spurs fans seem to think that the Bentley deal has been done on their terms, it hasn't. If anyone is going to buy him it needs to be done on our terms. the shrewdest chairman in the league is John Williams. 3.5 million for Santa, Ryan Nelsen Free, Chris Samba 400k, Brad Friedel Free, Tugay 1.2 million, Steve Warnock 1.5 million. I could go on.... John Williams, the best, the very best.

14/07/2008 15:49:00

That is an impressive transfer record but that's not all down to the chairman, more to do with an excellent scouting network to pick up quality players when, for one reason or another, their stocks at a minimum. Although we were mugged for Bent, Levy IS a shrewd Businessmen, you can see that from Spurs being 11th in the football rich list despite never appearing in the champions league (unlike the rest of the top 20). That said this whole 'my chairman is shrewder then your chairman' argument seems a little silly, can't we just support our respective chairman and clubs without this ridiculous willy waving?

I've had my run-ins with Spurs fans over the years, but I think you are right dude, the good ones FAR outweigh the bad ones, its just a shame that the bad ones makes SUCH a bad impression that it spills over into most teams thinking ALL Spurs fans are like it, when they're not. Anyway, Bents ISN'T in the squad for the match with Macclesfield tonight, so I think its safe to so HE'S OFF!!! Williams will have agreed the best deal possible for Rovers.

Weird stuff going on, thats for sure. According to most sources, Spuds havent even bid for Bentley and Villa have, although the size of our bid is unsure (certainly more than the reported 10 million). Would love to see us bid 17 million for Bentley, he's the kind of player we need to move forward.
