Defender Of The Season

With YOUR help Vital Blackburn has been trying to determine what have been the best and worst of the Blackburn Rovers 2007-2008 season.

The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2007-2008 continue to be dished out with the COLIN HENDRY AWARD FOR DEFENDER OF THE SEASON.

THE WINNER: STEPHEN WARNOCK.

When asked to simply leave the name of your Defender of the Season most felt Stephen Warnock Award Winner, so congratulations to Warnock!

Firstly (as with last year) Brad Friedel is a gimme; he is ALWAYS likely to win a battle if we were selecting a Goalkeeper/Defender of the season, so his name is written is stone, and he gets his own Award!!!

We had our fair share of awkward moments at the back last season, probably because Ryan Nelsen was again troubled by injury and wasn't at his best for large periods when he played in despite this, which always causes us problems as he is the rock in our back four (in front of Friedel), Christopher Samba was well below what we know he can do but Stevie W was consistently good and showed improvement throughout the season, which was capped with him winning his first senior England International cap earlier this summer.

Zurab Khizanishvili and Andre Ooijer deserve honorary mentions as well I personally believe as when called upon (which should have maybe been more often than they were with Nelsen struggling and Samba well below his best) they NEVER let us down, particularly Zurab he can count himself unfortunate to have come in for a match here and there but gone straight back out again when others were fit!!!

Thanks for voting on this, PLEASE KEEP your votes coming in for these other Awards, as there is STILL time to vote so click here for the list of categories and vote on the one(s) you want!

Next to be dished out will be the Award for the TUGAY AWARD FOR MIDFIELDER OF THE SEASON (so keep voting!!!)

A well deserved Award for Stevie W, if he carries on playing like he has he has every chance of cementing a place in the England squad.

Wot about Emerton??
Clint
What about him lol! He got a couple of mentions, but Stevie W blew everyone away here.
Hughes Da Man
i have to say that I think that Emerton had a better season, others wont and Warnock did well but..............
Clint
emerton was nowhere near as good as stevie W!! SSssssh Clint

Emo did no where as well as Warnock, he's got his 1st england cap. Cemented his place in the Team and isn't our first priority in the transfer market a RB, Mmmm wonder why Emo's much better in a forward role, not at RB, christ Hughes even tried Reid there in the end.
MajiRovers
Be fair guys, Emerton did have a good season for us and he was playing out of position. Granted he isn't the best defender (being a midfielder) but he stepped in, did a good job, didn't moan etc.

HEY HEY HEY!!!!!!!!!!!! all our other defenders got a mention here, and emo didnt, comon HDM step up to the plate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sasman
This is the right decision, from a consistency stand point and the fact that he delivered every week. Good work Mr.W.
MikeyGamst
FN1 has summed it up he's not a defender! Yes he got on with it he just wants to play like all the others. Emo has a role to play at the club, I would like to see him tried in midfield but not as the holder, he likes to drive with the ball, so lets see if he has a better end product than Dunn??
MajiRovers
I think even Sas would agree that Warnock deserved this award, his consistancy levels have been fab. Emo improved a lot this season but Warnock was immense for practically the entire season.
BomBom
Emo had his moment of glory with his most improved player, this was Stevie W's time :)
Hughes Da Man
gotta agree, warnock was our best, but where is EMOs name!!!!!!!!
sasman
well done warneyyy!
kendog
I would like emo in the attacking midfielder role... didnt he play in that role for Sas's lot once? And he scored twice didnt he?
MikeyGamst
Emerton scored twice!? Who were they playing Western Samoa?
