Nelsen Cleared For The Olympic Games

Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen has been given Paul Ince's approval to represent New Zealand at the Beijing Olympic Games this summer.

New Zealand wanted Nelsen to skipper their Under-23 Olympic squad as one of the over-age player that you are allowed, and Stu Jacobs has been given this approval by Ince so God will be a part of the squad that starts the Olympic bid, even if he isn't part of the squad that ends it.

Jacobs told nzsoccer: "It's great news.

"We've got one of the world's best defenders lining up for us in two crucial matches.

"The reality is that the club didn't have to release the player so Blackburn have really come to the party.

"They've got a new manager in Paul Ince who hasn't even met his captain yet but he said he knew Ryan was desperate to play and given the magnitude of the Olympic Games he was more than happy to help out where he could
."

However, God WON'T miss the start of the Premier League season as had been feared as he will join up with the Kiwi's ahead of their opening match against China, but will return after their second against Brazil to be back in time for the seasons opener against Everton!!!

We couldn't refuse him this opportunity as it might not come around again for him, the compromise of him returning after two matches seems fair and the chances are the Kiwi's wont progress much further than the opening stages anwway?!?!

Good luck to god, the olympics are a big thing out our way, kiwis wont go far, but still, good luck mate

Its a bad decision, he's gonna miss a lot of training when he's away, with the new boy in charge he should be at the training ground, learning his new role.

Good work all round. god wanted the chance to play for New Zealand. We have done the right thing. Come back fresh though Ryan!!!

Maj - wouldn't his new role be very similar, if not identical to his old role. Getting in the way of the ball that appears to going towards our goal...? I would presume he would retain his club captaincy. I can't see what other role he would have...
Decimus Poole
so is he defo back for the new season
kendog
He will still be the captain I hope... no need to change. Always better than Lucas!

Decimus - Lets say ince comes in a plays a different formation, last year we played a lot of 4411, so a midfield 4 I suspect that Ince will deploy a holding player, so that changes the dynamics of the central 2. Also with Ince on the look out for a RB, again our new back 4 need as much time on the training pitch together as poss, so they function as a single unit. The only way to get this down is on the training pitch and with his departure coming so close to the new season, its possible he might not have the Role down. Mikey Nelsen will be captain as long as he's in the 1st 11 he is a born leader, no one is better suited to the role at our club!
