Breaking news it seems as Chris Ronnie, The JJB Sports Chief is apparently close to completing a buyout of The Walker Trustees and wants it completed BEFORE a new manager is appointed.
Reported on Tribal football's website (But, in fairness, it seems to have been lifted from the UK tabloid 'The People') has indicated that JJB boss Ronnie has had four meetings with Rothschilds, the financiers empowered by the Jack Walker Trustees to find an interested party to sell the club and there has been 'significant progress'.
Ronnie, apparently hopes to have an 'exclusivity period' agreement that would let him go through the books and make a formal offer.
The main issue is, we all are aware of this, how much the late Jack Walker's family want.
'They stopped pumping in cash recently but still have virtually complete control.' This virtually confirms what we had all thought regarding the financial issues surrounding Hughes' departure.
The Trustees are seeking approximately £35million for Blackburn Rovers. Ronnie and his consortium want to purchase the club and hand over a war chest for new acquisitions this summer.
If this takeover is completed as soon as Ronnie would like, then it could also head off possible sales of key players such as David Bentley or Roque Santa Cruz.
For me, this news has come out of the blue. As the article has suggested, if there has been a series of meetings and Ronnie is serious about this, it makes me question Hughes' motives YET AGAIN as to why he has jumped ship as surely, given his gripe with the Trustees and lack of finances, his 'good friend' John Williams would have surely kept him in the loop on this.
Either way, if this takeover gathers pace, Rovers could be sitting very pretty by the time the European Championships are over.
