Henk ten Cate Enters The Fray

Blackburn Rovers are not short of candidates for the vacant managers job at Ewood Park with former Chelsea coach Henk ten Cate understood to have become the latest to throw his hat into the ring.

Steve McClaren seems to want the job (and has backing from Don McKay) as does Sam Allardyce, with Alan Shearer one of the fans favourites for this along with MK Dons manager Paul Ince, however, he may not have the qualifications required?!?! Former Glasgow Rangers and Dutch International manager and current Zenit St Petersburg's manager Dick Advocaat and Preston's Alan Irvine are also being linked with ten Cate understood to be the latest to express his interest in the position.

After Chelsea sacked Avram Grant ten Cate expected to stay at Stamford Bridge but he was also relieved of his duties, but after holding talks with Panathinaikos about becoming their new manager he has apparently broken off talks while he awaits the outcome of his chances of coming to Ewood, something that another alledged Panathinaikos target Michael Laudrup has also done.

There ARE plenty of names being mooted, Ince and Shearer seem to be the favourites among the fans but Laudrup is also gaining some backing, however, personally I feel that he could only use Rovers as a short-term stepping stone to further his career??? 53-year-old ten Cate had helped Barcelona to Spanish Titles and the Champions League so does have the quality and of course experience, but is he the man that is wanted though?!?!

I'm still keen on Ince, although also like the thought of Shearer but I'm not sure he would take over here if he wouldn't at Newcastle, however, the position offered with them might not have been what he might be offered here?!?! Would it just be a stop gap until the Newcastle job came up again though, which it probably will in a year or so anyway!!! Michael Laudrup would be a superb choice, but I couldn't see him sticking around long, and stability is what we need isn't it.

I like the idea if Laudrup but as you say might not stick around, Ince is having problems with qualifications. WHile the ten cate not sure if he is proper manager material and just a class coach but might lose it at managerial level.

all I'll say then is good luck if HTC gets it!

Don't see H T C getting the job, only good as a coach, I'd bet on you going for Ince very similar to Hughes

Ince? I reckon they'll get Big Sam!

wouldnt mind dick advocat if he was interested! surely mcclaren wont be in the fram and it probly jus his agent bigging him up! has shearer said anything regarding the job!????

I rate him as a coach but maybe the managers job would suit him??? I'm sure Williams will be thorough when he appoints a new man.
